

Alexander Sandler, age 82, passed away on August 30, 2019 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Alex was born on February 7, 1937 in Odessa, Ukraine to Moeshe and Rosa. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Rivka and Ana. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 58 years, Janet (Mezevetskaya) Sandler, his children: Mela Steinman (Richard) and Rimma Driscoll (Kevin) and his grandchildren: Rachel, Eric, Sarah, Elizabeth, Rory, Jacob and Alyssa. Alex grew up in Odessa, Ukraine. After high school, he served in the Russian army rising through the ranks and completed his service as a Lieutenant. Alex then attended the Polytechnical Institute of Odessa, graduating with a degree in engineering. After marrying Janet in 1961 and having 2 children, he decided to immigrate with his family to Cleveland, Ohio in 1977, where he and Janet started their lives and careers all over again. Alex made this tremendous sacrifice to provide a better life for his family. He retired in 2002, relocating to Fort Lauderdale. Throughout his life, Alex worked tirelessly to care and provide for his wife and daughters. He was a devoted husband, proud father, and loving grandfather. Alex was known for his great sense of humor and love of family. He had a passion for gardening and, with his incredible green thumb, enjoyed taking care of his many and varied plants. Alex also enjoyed spending time on the beach with friends, reading and was an avid fan of professional basketball and soccer. A memorial service will be held on Friday, September 6, 2019 at 1:30 PM at the Star of David Funeral Home, 7701 Bailey Rd, North Lauderdale, FL 33068, immediately followed by an Interment service at the same location. A celebration of life, open house will be held at the Steinman Residence starting at 4:00 PM.
