Carolyn Porcelan lived her life with laughter, strength, and a vibrant spirit that drew people to her wherever she went. Funny, charismatic, and always ready with a good joke, Carolyn had a special gift for making others feel welcome and cared for. Her compassionate heart and natural warmth turned simple conversations into lasting friendships.
Born in Manhattan and raised in the Bronx, Carolyn showed remarkable determination from an early age. At just sixteen years old, she enrolled at Cortland College, where she earned her teaching degree and began a lifelong dedication to education.
Carolyn’s greatest love story began in the Catskills, where she quite literally swept Harold Porcelan off his feet — offering him a ride from a singles event parking lot. That chance meeting blossomed into a deep and enduring partnership filled with love, laughter, and devotion.
A passionate and devoted educator, Carolyn taught at Hillel for more than twenty years. She was known as a teacher who was firm yet deeply compassionate and caring. Years after leaving her classroom, former students would return to tell her she was their favorite teacher — a testament to the lasting impact she had on young lives.
Carolyn embraced life fully. Even after being diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, she refused to let it define her. She continued traveling, cruising, shopping, enjoying theater, and dining out — living with determination and grace. Her strength was supported by her dedicated trainer Bryan, her compassionate aide Claudia, and her own remarkable resilience. We are thankful for the exceptional
Care given to her by Doctor Charles Stone and His Caring Team.
Her daughters cared for her with extraordinary devotion and love, taking her everywhere with them — on cruises, family vacations, and to their favorite restaurants — ensuring she continued to experience joy, laughter, and togetherness. It is impossible to tell Carolyn’s story without recognizing the constant presence, advocacy, and compassion of her daughters, who surrounded her with dignity, comfort, and unwavering support.
Carolyn filled her days with friendship and fun — joining clubs, playing mah jong, participating in Rock Steady Boxing, and surrounding herself with vibrant communities of friends who became like family. No matter where she was, she struck up conversations and formed connections that lasted a lifetime.
A talented homemaker, Carolyn loved sewing and lovingly created matching dresses and headbands for her daughters, Beth and Marcie. She cherished family vacations, especially trips to Callaway Gardens, creating memories that her family will treasure forever. Her talents even earned her recognition as “Cook of the Week” in the Hollywood Sun Tattler.
Carolyn’s life was defined by love, resilience, laughter, and connection. She leaves behind a legacy of warmth, strength, and devotion that will continue to inspire all who knew her.
She is lovingly survived by her daughters, Beth and Marcie (Horton); her nieces and nephews, David (Kathy), Gail (Kevin), Micki (Christie), and Karen; and her great-nieces and great-nephews, Jonathan, Ben, Emily, Brynna, Gabe, and Aidan.
