John, Scott & Steph -- Thinking of all of you during this time of remembrance of Debbie.  What beautiful memories I have of your family and the wonderful times we all had.  I can see Debbie & Kim enjoying a glass of wine from above, toasting all of us.

After hearing about the loss of Debbie from our friends Marcie Schoolnick and Candace Cooper last night, I have been flooded by vivid memories of our coming of age years from seventh grade through high school. Although I haven't seen Debbie for many years, we reconnected when she wrote a beautiful tribute to my mother in an online memory book last year. Without her current phone number, I searched for Debbie and found her on a pickle ball team list in Florida. Pickle ball?! I thought it couldn't be my Debbie, although we did like to play ping pong in John's parent's basement. I feel fortunate to have spent an hour with Debbie on the phone hearing about her recent life and her wonderful family. I am so sorry John, Robert, Janice and the rest of her loving family for such a profound loss of your dear Debbie. 

When Barbara notified me it was time to meet the Baltimore relatives (a big, loving boisterous crew, as she put it) I was a bit anxious. It was my rite of passage into the Baltimore/Goodman clan. Barbara explained that her relationship with Debbie was as close as she’d ever come to having a sister. Immediately after meeting Debbie I understood. She made me feel welcomed and comfortable within minutes. I felt as though I’d known her for years. Over time as our families grew we’d always make time to visit Baltimore. After dinner both families would settle into the family room to watch TV or except a challenge at Ping Pong in the basement. Eventually the kids would go upstairs to bed, Barbara and John would fall asleep on the couch leaving Debbie and I to talk and solve the world’s problems. Current events, books, movies, art and anything and everything were on the agenda. I looked forward to those discussions. She was wise, honest, thoughtful and such a good listener. At the close of each of our conversations I always came away feeling smarter. I’ll miss those talks with cousin Debbie and so much more.

I've known Debbie most of my life, as she and my first cousin Janis were first cousins.  We shared a lot of family connections also because her grandmother and my grandmother were cousins.  I liked to think that Debbie was my first cousin, too.  My family would travel from New York and visit the exotic (to me) suburbs of Maryland, where they had short wide houses with basements, space galore and the burger places put mustard on your burger.  Janis and Debbie lived next door to each other.  It was like a family compound, us kids running wild between both houses and swimming in the above ground pool in summer.  It was like cousin summer camp and it was heaven.  Somehow I would get Debbie and Janis, both not known to be extroverts, to step up when I would say, "Let's put on a show!" for our parents.   

I always wanted to talk to Debbie.  She was smart, she said interesting things.  I didn't know the word for it then, but I think what I felt was that she was perceptive.  There would be a jolt of recognition in something she said, that taught me a different way to see things.  And talking to Debbie has been a good thing always.  We tracked each other through life, the losses, the changes, the highs, the lows.  Debbie got what was going on with me and I was always glad for that.  She had a talent for caring about people.  And perhaps even more of a talent for worrying about them :)

Debbie knew who she was.  No fuss, no muss.   And after viewing her memorial on zoom today, I was struck by how clearly her children and son-in-law knew who she was, too.  To be so well known is a gift.  Debbie exerted a strong influence, while being understated and humble.  Within that short frame there was a big force full of intelligence, compassion and care.  I send my deep condolences to John, Scott, Stephanie, Robert and all in her sphere.   May you grieve well and may your love continue and carry you.

We send our love and wishes of comfort to John and his family. I worked with John at the Office of Disability. He is perhaps the finest man I ever knew. We enjoyed our times with Debbie and the family events they invited us to. Debbie was much younger than we are. She deserved more time to enjoy her retirement.

Such a devastating loss for the entire family.  Debbie was such an incredible inspiration for all of us.  We will miss her.

I am so saddened to hear this devastating  news about Debbie.   I remember her  sweet smile,  her petite cuteness, her sense of humor, her kindness and love of life.  I am thinking of all of Debbies family and loved ones and sending support , love and the strength to get through this very difficult time 

Debbie and I were very close friends as well as first cousins. She always referred to me as her “cool NY cousin”.  She was one year younger than me and when she visited me in Jackson Heights my mom (her Aunt Shirley) would always instruct me to “Hold Debbie’s hand” when we crossed the street (Even when Debbie grew up). We would laugh about it.  But I always held her hand.  I’ll miss that.  

I’m so shocked and saddened by the passing of our sweet Debbie. I have so many fond memories of our friendship. Sending sincere and heartfelt condolences to all of us who mourn her loss. Hoping all the wonderful memories will help to comfort us now and always. RIP dear sweet friend.

My heart aches to hear the passing of our beautiful Debbie. Debbie and I were part of the dynamic trio of Margie Swan, Candace Cooper, and myself during our Junior High and High School years while growing up in Randallstown. So many fun memories of hanging out at Burger King and the White Coffee Pot Junior, otherwise known as The Pot. Debbie was always beautiful both physically, with her long golden locks, and spiritually. I remember how hard she worked on the Randallstown Year Book committee, which most likely inspired her to ultimately become a librarian. 

On to college at the University of Maryland, Debbie and I were roommates in Cumberland Hall.  Always in love with "Her John", I hardly saw her due to her frequent trips back to Randallstown to see her much loved John. We lost touch after college but I will always remember her fabulous dry wit and intelligence. John and family, I am so sorry for your loss. You are in my thoughts and prayers and my heart aches for you. Debbie was a true gem and I will always cherish her memory.

My heart aches for your loss.  I was a fixture in your home during those formative, middle school years…and wouldn’t have it any other way.  One memory I recall was the first time I ever experienced a musical.  Ms. Debbie’s love of the arts brought this little Carroll County girl to the theater for Carousel.  I remember tripping up the stairs in my skirt (can’t take me any where fancy!), but I also remember the thrill of those first notes.  I was mesmerized.  I have your family, and your mom specifically, to thank your that memory.  I send my love to you all.  ❤️

Losing Debbie is impossible to comprehend. Since meeting in the dorm in 1976, she has been like a sister - sharing secrets, books, trips, family joys and sorrows. Always supportive, a tough cookie, dedicated to all things Terps and Baltimore, interested and interesting, but above all, passionate about her family. Nothing came before her parents and John, Stephanie, Scott, and her grandsons. They were a mutual admiration society and gave her back so much love. We've lost a significant influence and will carry her spirit with us always. Love you, Deb.

Debbie and I were roommates in college. We didn't stay in constant contact after college, but always stayed in touch for life's big events; weddings, funerals, children, grandchildren. Although I didn't see Debbie very often, I always think of her with love and a smile. Her loyalty and devotion to family and friends, sense of humor, straight talking approach, and work ethic all made the world a better place. Debbie will be greatly missed.

Debbie a/k/a “Baron” is our friend bound in a tightly knit group of trusted lifelong friends from Randallstown. I cannot imagine what her family is going through. We had a reunion 3 years ago in Florida and laughed for days remembering all the fun we had. We will keep telling the stories of her high spirit and hope John and her family find peace in the days ahead.❤️Love you, Baron !

I met this beautiful lady 52 years ago through my then girlfriend Joanne, later to be my wife,  and introduced Debbie to my best friend , John. She was more family to me then friend. Smart, witty, loving, empathetic, and sometimes sharp if necessary keeping  my friend, her husband, on a straight course. She was smart enough to make John think he was in control at times. You did not want to cross paths presenting a conservative point of view as Debbie’s liberal beliefs were strong. She was the voice of reason if you were troubled, giving perspective to your problem. She had a great sense of humor laughing at others as well as herself. Her love for her entire family was her passion always speaking about them with such pride for obviously good reason. Her marriage with John was one in which they figured out common interests and enjoyed those together, yet recognizing diversity and allowing it into their relationship. She was a wonderful human being and the the world really needs many more  like her. As I’m writing I really don’t feel as if  she is no longer with us as  it doesn’t make sense to me. So many wonderful memories rushing through my mind, so many tears streaming down my face. I told her I love her the afternoon before she passed. I’ll say it one last time, I Love You

Scott, Stephanie, and dear, dear John.  Speedy and I are so very sad. Our families were joined many years ago through the strong friendship of your grandparents, 'Miss' Anne and 'Mr' Newt.  My mother and Anne were the best of friends...inseparable.  My father and Newt were friends and SSA colleagues.  When your dad began dating your mom, the incomparable Debbie Baron, I remember the excitement of your grandmother.  John and Debbie and Speedy and I ran with the same circle of friends.  I clearly remember when they married, when you two were born, the wonderful years of being young with babies and sharing our joys and frustrations.  Your mom was an intelligent, funny, beautiful, engaging woman.  The world will sorely miss her presence.  I'm certain that you two, Scott and Stephanie, have parts of her deeply embedded into your beings.  Share them with everyone. John, we have no words to say except that we love you deeply.

Debbie was an incredible woman who made a difference to everyone she touched.  She loved her family and friends with awesome intensity, such a special human being.   She will always have a spot in our hearts, and we already desperately miss her.
