Born on December 13, 1955, in St. Vincent and the Grenadines to loving parents Elrita and Ernest Williams, Des was the fifth of ten children and grew up surrounded by the warmth of a large and close-knit family.
He spent his early years in the Hopewell and Richland Park communities, helping his family farm the land—lessons that instilled in him discipline, perseverance, and a deep respect for hard work. Des attended Richland Park Government School and later Mountain View Adventist Academy, where his love for learning blossomed. A devoted member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, his faith guided him throughout his life.
After graduating from St. Vincent Teachers’ College, Des returned to Richland Park Government School, where he taught for 12 years. He was not just an educator, but a mentor and pillar in his community.
In July 1984, Des migrated to the United States, first living in New York for 10 years before settling in Florida, where he made his home in Sunrise and later Margate. For 22 years, he worked at Home Depot, earning the admiration and respect of both coworkers and customers for his kindness, humility, and unwavering work ethic.
Des shared 39 beautiful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Euvan Ottley-Williams. Together they built a faith-centered home filled with love, joy, and purpose. He was the proud father of Daniel Williams and Donna Joseph, and a loving grandfather to Amiya Joseph, Dannyreign Williams, and Kyrie Williams. He also cherished his extended family, including siblings Seymore, Alena, Wilfred, Hyacinth, Darwin, Kevin, Julia, and the late Ensley and Nevil; as well as brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, a daughter-in-law, Tane Williams, and a son-in-law, Will Joseph.
Des will be remembered for his generosity, warm spirit, and ability to make anyone feel like family. Whether hosting backyard gatherings, sharing a meal, or offering a kind word, he gave freely of his time, laughter, and love. His sense of humor was ever-present—lightening the mood with a witty remark or a playful quip, even in challenging moments.
Though health challenges marked his final months, Des faced them with quiet strength and dignity. He leaves behind a legacy of faith, kindness, and service that will live on in all who knew him.
Des’s life came full circle—born on the 13th and laid to rest on the 13th—serving as a gentle reminder that love is eternal and that the bonds we share never truly fade.
He will be deeply missed by his wife, children, grandchildren, extended family, and countless friends whose lives he touched. His memory will forever remain in our hearts.
