Evelyn was born July 9, 1931 in New York to Max and Shirley Roth. She graduated from high school and became a bookkeeper (working for companies including for Paramount Studios). On June 8, 1951 she married Herbert Hirsh of New York. Herbert was a sales manager and involved in the selling of lead, tin, aluminum to various companies for many years. Evelyn had many interests including watching television (soap operas such as As the World Turns and I Love Lucy, game shows, and Judge Judy), reading books by her favorite author, Mary Higgins Clark, eating anything chocolate (especially ice cream or Italian ice), taking the bus to the dollar store, deli for her lox wings or Publix, and listening to the musical group, ABBA. She also loved playing the nickel slot machines at the casino with having eating lunch at Myron's deli as well as playing Mahjong with her friends. She was active for many years as a receptionist for H & R Block in the same office as Herbert. She spent her recent years ably taking care of her home in Tamarac, FL before she moved into an adult living facility where she met friends and became part of the "three musketeers" with 2 other ladies. She then moved to a skilled nursing facility where she enjoyed eating ice cream and playing Bingo. She enjoyed the visits from her family and being brought lunch or dinner or going to a Chinese buffet restaurant especially for the white fish and shrimp with lobster sauce or to a deli for the chicken noodle and matzah ball soup.
Evelyn is survived by her son, Steven Hirsh, daughter, Ellen Hirsh, and her two grandchildren, Michael and Pamela, as well as several cousins and friends. In the last few months, she was overjoyed with excitement to meet her first great grandchild who is soon to be born within the next few weeks. She was preceded in death by her parents, Max and Shirley Roth as well as her sister, Roberta and brother-in-law Irwin. She was strong and will be loved and missed forever.
