Gail Stemmer Shankman, 83, passed away on September 4, 2025. She was the devoted wife of over 65 years to Edward. Beloved mother to her children, Sherri (and Daniel) Weiss, Alan (and Linda) Shankman, Steven (and Maureen) Shankman, and cherished aunt to her niece Jody (and Stuart) Rotman. Daughter-in-law to DeVera Shankman and sister-in-law to Shelley Parsons. She was a loving grandmother to David, Megan, Jenna (Sergio), Sarah (Jensen), Ashley (Brent), Ronnie, Ryan, Hannah, Celia, Ilene (Ryan) and Sean. Great-grandmother to Charlotte, Lilah, Cole, Carly, Kyle, Amelia and Kaliyah. Predeceased by her sister, Kay Timinsky.
Gail was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and cousin. She passed away, surrounded by her family, after a long goodbye due to Alzheimer’s. Her family takes comfort knowing she is now at peace, her love and fiery passion preserved in their hearts forever.
Gail was born in New York to Israel and Celia Stemmer. As a child, she moved to Miami Beach where she first met her future husband and soulmate, Eddie, at 15. They raised their children in Miramar and later moved to Plantation.
Gail’s career was in accounting, serving as bookkeeper and controller in the private and public sector. Gail led the Soref Jewish Community Center in Plantation for nearly twenty years, for ten years as Comptroller and another ten as co-Executive Director and later retiring as Executive Director.
A member of Temple Israel of Miramar and Ramat Shalom Beth Israel of Plantation, Gail was active in the synagogue community and leadership.
