Helen Goldberg, 90, of Snellville, GA, formerly of Allentown, passed away peacefully at the home of her daughter Ronnie Schmucker under the watchful care of relatives, friends, and Weinstein Hospice. Helen was born in 1925, the daughter of Irving and Sylvia Harris in Brooklyn, NY. She met her husband Larry while working at the Brooklyn Naval Hospital after the end of World War II. Larry was a hospitalized sailor and Helen was the clerk who handed out the paychecks. They were married in 1947 for 57 years until Larry passed away in 2004.
Helen and Larry and their young family moved to Allentown in 1956. Helen worked in the family real estate and construction businesses, the Guthsville Playhouse (of which they were part owners) and at the Allentown JCC. Helen loved the theater and performed in several productions at the JCC. Helen was perhaps best known to many as “The First Lady of the Guthsville Playhouse”. She loved animals and was a passionate supporter of The Humane Society. After retirement Helen and Larry moved to Sunrise, FL where they enjoyed many years. Helen then moved to Snellville, GA to be closer to family.
Helen is survived by her three children, Irwin (Beth) of Manlius, NY, Carol Jones of Hollywood, FL, and Ronnie Schmucker (Michael) of Snellville, GA, and grandchildren Cara of Syracuse, NY, and Andrew (Jumaah) of Alexandria, VA.
