Henrietta Simon passed away on January 8, 2022, at the age of 103. Henrietta was a long time resident of Wynmoor in Coconut Creek, Florida. Wynmoor is where she and her husband, Herman, came to spend their retirement years some 30 years ago. Henrietta was raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the third and youngest child of Max and Mollie Klegman. It was in Philadelphia where she married, raised a family, and worked. Henrietta had two children, Carolyn (‘Cookie’) and Barry. Before retiring, Henrietta was the secretary for the chief medical officer of Philadelphia’s health department. Henrietta’s engaging and upbeat personality resulted in many friendships. Wednesday nights were special in Philadelphia as it was on those nights she would get together with her girlfriends to play canasta or mahjong well into the late evening hours. Her son, Barry, says he can still hear the endless laughter from the direction of the card table. Henrietta continued playing canasta and mahjong after she arrived at Wynmoor. Her boundless energy and positive spirit attracted many new friends at Wynmoor, most younger, who would often stop by her condo to visit. She was active in Silver Sneakers, and swam and did aerobic water exercises regularly, even after she turned 100. She would say “you have to keep moving.” Henrietta’s daughter and son visited her frequently at Wynmoor and they shared many joyful times together. Henrietta loved being with family and her family loved being with her. Henrietta was preceded in death by her husband, Herman Simon, her daughter, Carolyn “Cookie” Mattioli, her brother, Albert Klegman, her sister, Mary Stull, and other relatives, and friends. Henrietta is survived by her son, Barry Simon (Mary Higgins), her grandchildren, Michele Wilde, Carla Mattioli (Michael Uebelacker), Michael Mattioli, Julie Rose (Bill), and Joseph Simon, ten great grandchildren, and other relatives, and her other family of friends, all of whom loved her and were loved by her.
