He was president of his high school fraternity and played on the track and golf teams at Brighton High School. Following his graduation from Cornell University, Bud served two years stateside in the army during the Korean War. Bud was trained as a medic and worked with patients in the neuro-psychiatric ward while living in Louisville, Kentucky. During his army years, Bud married his sweetheart, Sandie Spitzer, in 1954. The young couple settled down in Rochester, New York, where they raised their four children. Bud was the Executive Vice President of the Star Supermarket chain, the youngest President of Temple B'rith Kodesh from 1970 to 1973 and was involved in many organizations during those Rochester years. Deciding on an early retirement away from Rochester winters, the couple moved to the community of Boca Lago in Boca Raton in the fall of 1991. Bud continued to enjoy playing golf, tennis and bridge. He also served on the Pines Board of Directors for 12 years. Bud had a great sense of humor and made friends very easily. Friends and family could always find him at his favorite lunch spot, The Original Pancake House, in Boca. He had a wonderful relationship with the owner, Moe, and all of the wait staff. Bud was predeceased bv his son Gary Rubens, and brother, Don Rubens.
Surviving Bud is his beloved wife Sandie and their | three children, Karen Seifer (Jeff), Andover, MA, Sheila Rubens, Wellington, FL, and Kenneth Rubens (Robin), Miami, FL, sister Carolyn Moskowitz and sister-in-law Linda Rubens, both from Rochester, NY, his adoring grandchildren, Andrew and Danielle Seifer, Deric Rubens, and Arielle and Erin Rubens, and his nephew and nieces. Papa Bud, as his grandchildren called him, will be forever in our hearts. A funeral service will be held on Friday, September 27, 2019 at 1:30 pm at Star of David, 7701 Bailey Road, North Lauderdale, FL 33068.
