

Lawrence "Larry" Toroker, 74, beloved husband of Ruthie, passed away surrounded by family and loved ones on July 20, 2016. He was born on August 18, 1941 in Bronx, NY to Robert and Minnie Toroker. He is preceded in death by his parents and survived by his beloved wife of 40 years, Ruthie; daughters Lara (Dennis) Slaman, Marisa (Lance) Austenberg and Dawn Toroker; sons Michael (Mari) and Joshua; grandchildren Julia, Aidan, Abigail, Kendal, Soren, Griffin, Julian and Alexander; sister Marilyn (Sherman) Salberg; nephews Howard and Glenn. Larry graduated from James Monroe HS early to attend Fordham University ('62) on a baseball scholarship where he was known as "The Prince". A proud Jewish man, he was among the first Jews to attend Fordham. Larry moved his business and family from Yonkers, NY to Parkland in 1992 and established Jade Ocean Cleaners on Galt Ocean Mile. As a dedicated small business owner, he took pride in patronizing local businesses, especially restaurants. His sons Michael and Joshua continue the family dry cleaning business founded by their grandfather Robert Toroker in 1957. Larry was a lifelong Jets and Mets fan. He enjoyed spending time with family, relaxing at the pool and being at the beach. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, July 24, at 11:30, at Star of David at 7701 Bailey Road, North Lauderdale.
