

Maurice Porth 100, of Coral Springs, Florida passed away Monday, March 26, 2012. On December 28th, 2011 Maurice "Moshe" Porth celebrated his 100th year surrounded by family and friends. Pop as he was affectionately called lived an amazingly full life. Born Moshe Rapaport in Subich, Lithuania on December 28, 1911, he married Chaya and soon after fled Nazi invasion along with his sister in law Shoshanah. 13 of his family members stayed and perished. Moshe served in the Russian Army. Lived in a displaced persons camp after the war in Germany. And then relocated to the US where he ran a successful small grocery in Chicago. He spoke 7 languages. His proudest accomplishments were his sons, who both went on to become well respected physicians, Manuel Porth an Orthopedist in Tamarac, and Eli Porth an ENT in Orlando. He retired to Bat Yam Israel where he spent some of his happiest years among friends and family and returned to Coral Springs where he has lived for the last 20 years. Moshe is survived by his wife Chaya of 70 years, his sons Manuel and Eli and their wives Jackie and Ina, his grandchildren Ari and Tatyana, Jason and Abby, Jay and Cassidy, Marli and J.A. and Gideon and great grandchildren Jonah, Stella, Evie, Gabriel, Audrey, and Amelie. Pop was an inspiration to all who know him, loving, generous, and wise. He will be remembered for his passion for learning and his high regard for education.
