Max Moses Hagen passed away on December 16, 2025, leaving a legacy defined by intellectual brilliance, tireless work, and an epic love story. He departed this life just two days short of his 59th wedding anniversary with his beloved wife, Barbara—the woman who remained the center of his world until his final breath.
A man of profound courage and Jewish heritage, Max was only three years old when his family fled Germany to escape the Holocaust. These early challenges forged a man of incredible grit; he worked relentlessly to put himself through school, transforming his journey as a refugee into a life of significant American achievement.
At the University of Florida, he was a brother of Pi Lambda Phi and established a reputation for leadership that would follow him his entire life—serving as the president of nearly every organization he joined. He was known for an intellect so sharp that he famously became the unofficial tutor for the university’s athletes during his undergraduate years.
He continued his education at the University of Miami School of Law where his character and contributions earned him induction into the Iron Arrow Honor Society, the highest honor bestowed by the university. His subsequent career in law was marked by success, but more importantly, by the deep respect and admiration of his colleagues and the community.
Despite his professional accolades, Max viewed his marriage and his family as his greatest legacy. The nearly 59 years he spent by Barbara’s side served as a masterclass in devotion. He was a pillar of the community and a man who led with wisdom, providing a foundation of security, faith, and love for the generations that followed him.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara; his children, Kim, Kevin, and Keri; his eight grandchildren; and his five great-grandchildren. May his memory be a blessing to all who knew him.
A funeral service will be held at Star of David Memorial Chapel, located at 7701 Bailey Road, North Lauderdale, FL 33068, in the Main Chapel on December 22, 2025, starting at 2:45 pm.
Following the funeral service, a committal service will take place at the Star of David Memorial Gardens Cemetery, in the Garden of Aaron, also located at 7701 Bailey Road, North Lauderdale, FL 33068, beginning at 3:15 pm.
