Nina Rosenzweig (86) of Boca Raton, FL, passed away at home on September 19, 2024, after a short illness, surrounded by her beloved family. She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Marty, and her children Robin (Elliott), Jeffrey (Amy), Sharon (Robert), and Todd (May), ten grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren.
She was born in New York City and went to Yeshiva Rabbi Moses Soloveichik and the High School of Music and Arts. She met Marty during their freshman year at the University of North Carolina and they married during their senior year on January 11, 1958. Nina received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology in May 1958 and her Masters in Social Work from Hofstra University in the mid-80s. She and Marty raised their children in North Woodmere, NY and lived there full time until they purchased their home in Boca West in 1997. They became full time residents in Boca West in 2010.
Nina was active in the Sisterhood of Temple Hillel in North Woodmere, the PTA of Hebrew Academy of Nassau County, campaigned for candidates she believed in, marched for causes she was passionate about, including women’s rights and voter registration, worked hard alongside her husband in his businesses, built two small businesses of her own (children’s clothing and medical scrubs for the non-medical community), and for the last thirty years, managed an apartment building in Boro Park, NY left to her by her father. Most recently, she devoted herself to the Adolf and Rose Levis Jewish Community Center. She was on the board for over 10 years, co-chaired a “Jeans, Jewels and The J” gala and was honored with Marty for their extraordinary work and generosity at the JJJ gala in 2017. Nina worked tirelessly on the screening committee of the JCC Boca Raton Jewish Film Festival for many years, which culminated in her chairing the Screening Committee of the very successful Judy Levis Krug Boca Raton Jewish Film Festival in 2023. She was a proud Zionist who cared deeply about the safety and continuation of the Jewish people and visited Israel multiple times. During her years living in Boca West, she created many warm and lasting friendships and she and Marty cherished their time with their friends.
Nina’s biggest dream was to have a large and loving family, and she spent countless hours nurturing her husband, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She listened to them, guided them, helped them, and marveled at their accomplishments. Every Jewish and American holiday, birthday, and anniversary was celebrated beautifully together due to her great taste, love, and care. These family moments gave her the most joy, and her devotion to her family is the legacy she leaves behind for her family to continue. She was deeply loved and she will be sorely missed.
