Celebration of Life for Sonia Hyacinth Goldstein With hearts full of love, gratitude, and cherished memories, we celebrate the life of Sonia Hyacinth Goldstein, who peacefully transitioned on May 17, 2026, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, at the age of 70.
Sonia was born on January 5, 1956, in Westmoreland, Jamaica, to Avis Miller and Ruben Gouldbourne. From her early years, she was known for her caring heart, strong faith, and determined spirit. Whether caring for children in Jamaica, operating her small clothing stall, or later building a life in the United States, Sonia carried herself with grace, resilience, and unwavering trust in God.
Faith was the center of Sonia’s life. She was a devoted member of Cathedral of Pentecost since immigrating to the United States and was known as a true prayer warrior. She encouraged everyone around her to draw closer to God and believed deeply in trusting Him through every circumstance. Even in difficult moments and difficult people, Sonia always chose to see the good.
Sonia was also a hardworking woman with an entrepreneurial spirit. She had a gift for finding opportunities, providing for her family, and teaching her children the value of perseverance and hard work. After coming to the United States, she earned her certification in janitorial services and faithfully worked for Macy’s for nearly 20 years.
To know Sonia was to know warmth, generosity, and love. She loved cooking and took great joy in feeding others — no one ever left her presence hungry. Her black cake, toto, and potato pudding were family favorites and made with the same love she poured into everything she did. She also found peace and happiness in gardening and caring for her plants, which flourished under her gentle touch.
On April 9, 1996, Sonia married her beloved husband, Steven Goldstein, and together they built a life grounded in faith and family.
She leaves to cherish her loving memory her devoted husband, Steven Goldstein; her children, Doyan Vassell (Jennifer Vassell), Barrington Williams (Karlene Williams), Julia Robinson, and Ruthann Goldstein; her beloved grandchildren, Latania (Dendre Moodie) Vassell, Chloe Vassell, Dacia Vassell, Delissa Vassell, and Julianna Williams; and her precious great-granddaughter, Amahlia Moodie.
She is also lovingly remembered by her siblings: Pearline Graham, Marva (Delroy) Stevens, Beverly (Clive) Campbell, Lloyd (Rosemarie) Robinson, Patrick (Rose) Robinson, Oral Robinson, and Carl Robinson.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Ruby Gouldbourne and brother Desmond Goldbourne.
Though our hearts are heavy, we rejoice knowing Sonia lived a life full of faith, strength, kindness, and love. Her prayers, wisdom, generosity, and unwavering belief in God leave behind a legacy that will continue through generations.
“Well done, good and faithful servant.” — Matthew 25:23
Forever loved. Forever remembered. Forever in our hearts.
