Born on December 26th, 1954, Darla was the first child of Calvin Amos and Betty Gibson Amos. After graduating from Northside High School, she attended the University of Arkansas, where she earned her Ph.D. in clinical psychology. After graduation, Darla began working at the Veterans Administration in Topeka, Kansas. She was able to return to Arkansas to work for the VA in Little Rock. We were all thrilled that Darla was back home with our family who dearly loved her.
Darla knew at an early age that God was leading her to live a life of helping people, showing compassion and sharing the love of Jesus, love to her family, friends, and those in need. Dr. Darla dedicated herself to helping our veterans for over 30 years. She had a “soft spot” and love for everyone she helped but especially for our senior service men and women.
Darla was the first female member of the NLR Sertoma chapter, and the first female governor of the Sertoma district, a foundation helping those affected by hearing loss and improving the lives of children and adults alike. She had many long-time Sertoman friends, and spoke so kindly about them and was proud to serve with them.
However as much love and dedication as she had for those in her life, her greatest love was, and still is, her Savior Jesus Christ. She accepted Christ Jesus when she was 6 years old, at First Baptist Church in Fort Smith. She shared her faith happily and boldly whether the listeners were neighbors close by or with people across the world. She was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Little Rock, where she greeted visitors and members, prayed with fellow Christians for missionaries spreading the Gospel of Jesus, participated in praying for the young people there, and served wherever she was needed. The joy of Christ was evident in her life.
Darla is together again with Mother, Daddy, our sister Nancy Karen, and many, many family members in our Eternal Home. Those who remain to carry her memory are sister, Lisa Amos Wright and husband, Mark; brother, Leslie Amos; much loved nephews, Caleb Amos and Nicholas Wright; aunts, uncles and cousins; her Sertoma and Church family. Her smile, wit, selflessness, and love will be missed. But our God will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning nor crying or pain any more, for the former things have passed away
Revelation 21:4
A graveside service for Darla will be held Tuesday, December 27, 2022 at 1:00 PM at Glendale Cemetery, 1800 AR 10, Booneville, AR.
