OBITUARIO FOR ADRIANA PUERTA

Esta semana se cumple un mes desde que nuestra amada madre, Adriana Patricia Puerta Gaitan, se fue al cielo a estar con Dios. Adriana, la hija primogenital, luego se convirtio en hermana mayor de Marina y Claudia Puerta, y la mejor madre del mundo a Alexandra y Veronica Criado. Ella fue una hermosa mujer de espiritu libre que siempre estaba lista para su proxima aventura. Viajo por el mundo cuando era joven y le encantaba aprender cosas nuevas. Ella studio Arte en el Instituto de Artes en Medellin, Colombia, llamado Bellas Artes. Artista professional y illustradora de cuentos infantiles fue la ocupacion de ella por toda la vida. Fue entonces cuando su pasión por el arte le abrió un camino a Europa, donde conoció al padre de sus hijas, David Criado. Juntos crearon una hermosa familia llena de amor y cariño. La vida de Adriana cambió mucho después de tener a sus dos hijas, su “sol” y su “luna” como ella diría. Una vez madre, empezó a comprender a su madre y a su padre, Adelaida y Julio Puerta Gaitán. También fue entonces cuando conoció a Dios y dedicó su vida a ser una madre maravillosa y a su familia en Colombia. Adriana adoraba a su familia en Colombia y pasaba horas charlando y riendo por teléfono con ellas. Soñaba con el día en que podría viajar a Colombia nuevamente y volver a estar con su madre y hermanas. Siempre quiso una finca en Colombia lleno de caballos y vacas, y donde pudiera pasar el resto de sus días creando pesebres y pintando.

A Adriana le encantaba ser madre, sobre todo porque era un gran escape de este mundo cruel poder ver películas de Disney y escuchar música infantil con sus hijas. Adriana tenía un gran sentido del humor y podía reírse de todos sus dolores y problemas, sin importar lo difícil que se volviera la vida para ella y su familia. Estaba llena de felicidad y alegría los 365 días del año. Si alguna vez se estresaba, ponía música de Phil Collins o Bob Marley y comenzaba a expresar sus emociones a través de su arte. Y ella era una muy buena artista en eso. Le encantaba la temporada navideña porque significaba que podía tocar villancicos navideños y empezar a decorar la casa con luces de colores divertidos, árboles de Navidad y cascanueces colocados estratégicamente. Realmente hizo de la temporada navideña un recuerdo que muchos de los que estábamos cerca de ella nunca olvidaremos.

Todos adoraban y cuidaban a Adriana por su radiante sonrisa y personalidad. Adriana querría que todos la recordaran celebrando la vida por los placeres simples, la belleza natural de ella y siguiendo a Dios. Ella era un alma hermosa. Ella era una mujer de ejemplo. Ella era una devota de Dios y era parte de la Legión de María, fue el mejor ejemplo de lo que significaba ser un seguidor de Dios. Adriana era el tipo de mujer que alimentaría a los demás incluso cuando no tenía para sí misma. Era como un corderito de Dios.

La vida que tuvo Adriana no fue fácil, pero siempre se mantuvo fuerte y luchó hasta su último día en esta Tierra. Le encantaba enseñar lecciones de vida a todo el mundo. Su mundo entero era el arte y la pintura, el baile y canto, creando belenes con materiales de la naturaleza que encontraba en sus pequeños paseos al trabajo o la iglesia, ilustrando libros infantiles para hacer sonreír a los niños, rezando el rosario, viendo películas y comedias de situación, sobre todo, “Everybody Loves Raymond”, y pasar el rato con su mejor amiguita, Edilma, en Caleñita después de misa para comer buñuelos o ir de compras a Ross y Burlington.

Tristemente, Adriana falleció el 19 de septiembre de 2021 a causa del Covid-19 que contrajo cuando asistía a la graduación de su hija Verónica, un sueno de toda la vida que se cumplió. Gracias a Dios, Adriana no estaba sola. Por un milagro de el Señor, sus hijas pudieron estar cerca de ella durante todo el desgarrador proceso hasta el momento en que tomó su último aliento. Se la llevaron demasiado pronto, pero ahora está descansando en paz y cuidándonos. Ella fue la mejor madre del mundo para sus hijas, y aunque siempre tendrán un agujero en forma de madre en sus corazones, han ganado un nuevo ángel de la guarda para guiarlas y protegerlas en su nuevo viaje en la vida. Gracias a todos por estar aca con Adriana y con nosotros. Ella estará contenta de que hoy estemos todos juntos con ella, sus mejores amigos y familia.

OBITUARY FOR ADRIANA PUERTA

This week marks one month since our beloved Adriana Puerta Gaitan passed away. Adriana Puerta Gaitan, the first-born daughter, then became an older sister to Marina and Claudia Puerta, and the best mother in the world to Alexandra and Veronica Criado. Adriana was a free-spirited beautiful woman who was always ready for her next adventure. She traveled to many places since she was a young girl. She studied at Bellas Artes, an Art Institute in Medellín, Colombia. Professional artist and illustrator of children's books was her occupation throughout her life. That was when her passion for art created a path for her to Europe, where she met her daughter’s father, David Criado. Together they created a beautiful family full of love and affection. Adriana's life changed a lot after having her two daughters, her “sol” and her “luna” as she would say. Once a mother, she began to understand her mother and father, Adelaida and Julio Puerta Gaitan. This is also when she met God and dedicated her life to being a wonderful mother and to her family in Colombia. Adriana adored her family in Colombia and spent hours chatting and laughing on the phone with them. It sounded like the day when he could travel to Colombia again and meet his mother and sisters. She always wanted a ranch in Colombia full of farm animals, and where she could spend the rest of her days creating mangers and painting.

Adriana loved being a mother, most of all because it was a great escape from this cruel world being able to watch Disney movies and listen to children's music with her girls. Adriana had a great sense of humor and could laugh at all her pains and troubles, no matter how difficult life became for her and her family. She was full of happiness and joy 365 days a year. If she ever became stressed, she turned up Phil Collins or Bob Marley music and began to express her emotions through her art. And she was a very good artist at that. She loved the holiday season because it meant she can blast Christmas jingles and start decorating the house with fun-colored lights, Christmas tree, and strategically placed nutcrackers. She truly made the Christmas season a memory that many of us who were close to her will never forget.

Everyone adored and cared for Adriana for her radiant smile and personality. Adriana would want everyone to remember her by celebrating life for the simple pleasures, the natural beauty of it, and by following God. She was a beautiful soul. She was a woman of example. She was a devotee to God and was a part of the Legion of Mary, she was the prime example of what it meant to be a follower of God. Adriana was the kind of woman that would feed others even when she did not have for herself, she was selfless

The life that Adriana had was not easy, but she always remained strong and fought until her last day on this Earth. She loved teaching life lessons to everyone. Her whole world was art, painting and singing, creating nativity scenes with materials from nature that she found on her little walks to work or church, illustrating children's books to make kids smile, praying the rosary, watching movies and comedies from situation, especially, “Everybody Loves Raymond”, and hanging out with her best friend Edilma at the Calenita to eat bunuelos, or go shopping at Ross.

Sadly, Adriana passed away on September 19, 2021, due to Covid-19 that she contracted while attending her daughter Verónica's graduation, a lifelong dream of hers that came true. Thankfully, Adriana was not alone. By a miracle of the Lord, her daughters were able to be close to her throughout the heartbreaking process until the moment she took her last breath. She was taken away too soon, but now she is resting peacefully and taking care of us from above. She was the best mother in the world to her daughters, and although they will always have a mother-shaped hole in their hearts, they have gained a new Guardian Angel to guide and protect them on their new journey in life. We want to thank you all for being here today with us and our beloved Adriana. We are certain that she is in heaven smiling and happy to see her best friends and family unite to be here for her.
