Charlotte Mazie Jane Brown Carey

Charlotte Mazie Jane Brown-Carey was born November 23, 1952 to Mr. Alfaeus Clark (Exuma) and Catherine Kathleen Dawkins, in Cat island of the Bahamas. Charlotte was one of 9 children, James Brown, Mabel Brown, Rubell Brown, Luther Brown, Annamae Burnside, Frank Rutherford, Henry Williams, and Peter Brown.

She moved to the United States in her early teens to live with her brother James and his wife Ethel in the Brownsville neighborhood of Miami, FL. She attended Miami Jackson Middle/Senior High School where she was described by friends as sweet, quiet, loyal friend, counselor, and a funny sense of humor. After graduating high school, she attended Miami-Dade Community College and transferred to the University of Miami, achieving her Bachelors in Nursing. Among places she worked were home health, Miami Heart Hospital, North Shore Hospital, and Hialeah Hospital. She met and married William Carey in 1975 at the Church of Incarnation. They had 2 kids, Sharmaine Carey in 1981 and Sherwin Carey in 1983 and settled in North Miami. Although they eventually parted ways, they remained the best of friends and loving devoted parents.

She retired from nursing in her late 50s and enjoyed a relaxing life with her children, grandchildren, Jamaine Davis and Johnathan Carey, and the rest of her family. Her favorite hobbies were fishing, sewing, watching crime mysteries, classic movies and sports like tennis and basketball. She loved to go to the pool and to the beach. But most of all she loved the Lord. She never missed an opportunity to share the word of God with her children, family, and friends. She always ended a conversation with “God Bless”. She always said “We are just passing through” and was always ready to see our Lord. And indeed she passed through with strength, grace, compassion, and love of Christ. She will truly be missed on this earth, but by his stripes she is healed and in the arms of our Lord and Savior.

A memorial celebration for Charlotte will be held Sunday, June 23, 2019 at 11:00 AM at Caballero Rivero Southern Funeral Home, 15011 West Dixie Highway, North Miami, Florida.
