Jean Lubin Plaiteau (Bay) was born in Moron, Grand’Anse, Haiti on October 9, 1934, to Julien Plaiteau and Jeanelia Antoine. Raised by his grandfather, Tervil, he was the oldest of nine siblings, six boys and three girls. At an early age Jean Plaiteau started farm working growing various produce that he sold at the marketplace. Jean met the love of his life, Marie Emilienne Joyeux, in his hometown in1964 and they immediately started their own family. In 1971, he moved with his wife and two children to Port-au-Prince, settling in Carrefour, where they raised five children. Jean moved to Miami in 1978, hoping to improve his family's life by finding better opportunities. After many years of hard-working odd jobs, Jean managed to have his family reunite with him in 1989. Jean loved gardening and spent his evenings caring for the fruits and vegetables he grew in his backyard, including papaya, pineapple, sugar cane, mangoes, yams, pigeon peas, etc. Jean was generous; he loved sharing his crops with family and friends. Jean Lubin Plaiteau faced health issues as he aged, including diabetes and loss of mobility after he suffered stroke on three different occasions. He spent the last six months of his life between hospitals and nursing homes. So, Jean Lubin Plaiteau took his last breath in Jackson Memorial Hospital at 10:14 P.M. on April 8, 2025.
