Previor Berice was born on September 27, 1934, in Saint-Louis du Nord, Haiti, to Berice Virgilien and Normilie Denave. As one of seven siblings, Previor faced the challenges of life in Haiti but managed to complete middle school. Developing a passion to work in construction and farming, he found purpose in his work. On July 31, 1969, Previor married Lamercie Berice, and the couple made the courageous decision to migrate to Freeport, Bahamas, leaving behind family and friends. While in the Bahamas, they became parents to their first-born daughter, Ivana, and was pregnant with their second son, Derius. Seeking a better life, Previor sent his pregnant wife and daughter back to Haiti, intending to relocate to Miami and reunite with them once he became settled.
Months later, Previor fulfilled his promise and brought his wife to Miami. Although their two elder children remained in Haiti with their grandmother, the family expanded as three more children - Jetta, Renold, and Carlinne - joined them. Eventually, the other two children reunited with the family in the United States. Previor continued his career as a respected and reliable construction worker until his retirement. Active in the community, Previor became a devout deacon at the French Speaking Baptist Church, now known as "Ebenezer Haitian Baptist Church." He not only assisted church members with their spiritual lives but also provided guidance on accessing services and job opportunities in Miami. Previor's home became a starting point and a safe haven for many who left Haiti or the Bahamas in pursuit of a better life. He played a pivotal role in paving the way for others, offering support with housing, employment, immigration, free driving lessons, and sharing valuable spiritual wisdom.
Previor maintained a buoyant spirit throughout life's challenges, especially losing his wife on December 6, 2006, unwavering in his faith and consistently expressing gratitude for the blessings bestowed upon him by God. Among the many facets that will be remembered about him, his hazel eyes stand out as a distinctive feature. Previor Berice's legacy is one of resilience, compassion, and community service, as he helped build a better future for those around him.
