There is a time for everything under the sun. On the day of January 17, 1922, a baby boy was born to David T. Ferguson and Catherine E. Smith Ferguson on the hills of Mt. Thompson in the Great Exuma, Bahamas. After eight days of his life on earth, they named him Rhuel James, he was the third child of ten children. His godmother was instrumental in his early childhood, at the age of five he was placed on a program to recite a recitation in Sunday school. He did so well he was rewarded coconut candy and benny cake now known as candy. This began his long journey in the church. At seven he entered public school at Rokers Point where he studied for six years; he then transferred to Mt. Thompson in 1935 where he completed his education. After leaving Exuma for the city of New Providence, Nassau in search for work. Returning home in April of 1942 to visit his parents which would have been the last time with his mother. She said to him “son you’re leaving me, whatever your mind says to do, do it well with honor and dignity. Rhuel returned to Nassau and began to work with Johnson Co. where I received my citizen ship card to be employed as contractor. I later joined the Bahamas Battalion Armed Force serving for two years. Embarking to the USA as a Farm Laborer from 1946 to 1951, working in six different states. He returned to Nassau shortly transitioning back to the United States in 1953. Job searching Rhuel located a job in the banking business where he worked for 34 years for six different banks, beginning at the door and finalized as one of the head cashiers. During these many years Rhuel met and married his school mate from Roker Point, Exuma Creola Rolle from this union, Audley, Audrey, David(deceased) and Penelope(deceased). Rhuel became a member of Saint Matthew Missionary Baptist Church under the Reverend Nathaniel Clark where he worked diligently serving in the church choir, usher board, trustee, church treasurer and on to Senior Deacon. He was dedicated to his church until he fell ill. Rhuel met and married Ina Morris in 1982, from this union came Lorna, Lenford, Leonie, Jaqueline, Elaine, Claudia, Dwight and Kathlyn. Rhuel James was a dedicated Husband and Father to his family whom he loved dearly. He loved and worshiped his God until the end. Rhuel James was predeceased by (Wife) Creola Ferguson, (Daughter) Penelope, (Son) David, (Brother) Willis (Bill), Gloverlyn (Sister) Dwight, Kathlyn, Audley, Audrey, Lorna, Lenford, Jaqueline, Elaine and Claudia, 23 Grandchildren, 30 Great grandchildren, Siblings: (Brothers) Rudolph and Hollie Ferguson (Sisters) Lenore and Icelyn Ferguson, Nieces and Nephews : Andrew, Marcus, Rhodnee, Paula, Tercita, Maltina, Carver, Hermice, Ricardo, Camille, Theresa, James II, Znitz, Absalom, Czleb, Natasha, Lonie, Deborah, Belden, Anita, Marci, Troy, Alirick, Holly, Tanya, Tina, Sunday Elain, Marsha, Melony, Roger, Raymond and a host of other relatives and friends.
