Rubi travelled to Nottingham, England to attend nursing school. After finishing school she started working as a registered nurse. Rubi had one son, Rennie Kingsley who preceded her in death.
She later met and Married Herman James Anderson, who preceded her in death. Shortly after they were married, she was blessed with three step-daughters. Rubi and her husband loved to dance. When she cooked her special meals and Olive asked her dad what is mom cooking today he would say, “ Boy Mom is cooking a killer meal something you would like with a nice bottle of wine, something you would like”. Rubi left England and return back to Jamaica where she worked at Nuttall Memorial Hospital for over 21 years. She love to assist people in her life. She later moved to Miami, Florida where she joined her husband who had moved here before her and had taken ill. Ruby cared for he husband until his demise. Rubi and her late husband loved to dance
Rubi had a fall in her home and was found on the ground on March 12, 2012 when Olive returned form vacation. This was three year after her husband passed away. After the fall Rubi was no longer able to live alone and care for herself. Olive had to put her in an assistive living facility because she was concerned for her safety and she resides so far away from her. She was visited a minimum of three times a week by Evelyn Wint to ensure that she was being cared for properly and she would have a familiar face. Rubi was the life of the facility. Rubi would go into the kitchen to help cook and in order to keep her out the kitchen they would assign her to clean the dining room table which she was happy to do.
As her health continue decline and she was needing more assistance the facility was no longer able to accommodate her. Rubi needed to be in a skilled nursing facility. Olive then transferred her to Hillcrest Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Hollywood, Florida. At Hillcrest, Rubi would go into the nurse’s station and when she was asked what she was doing there she would tell them that she was working. She made it her business to let them know she was a nurse and she was there to work her shift. They had a hard time keeping her away from that area.
Rubi was showered with love while she was at Hillcrest, the staff all loved her. On special occasion, Birthdays, Mother’s Day, Christmas, Easter, etc., she would receive cards and flowers from her step-daughter , Olive Hall and Evelyn Wint. Evelyn would make sure that she picked up a nice bouquet and arranged them herself and took them and place it in her room. Prior to putting them in her room she would take them to the dining room area where she hung out with the other residence and showed it to her and it would put a smile on her face. She had an amazing smile that would melt your heart.
Left to cherish her memories is her four brothers; Josiah Smith, Hubert Smith (England), Lester Smith (Connecticut), Anthony Smith (Jamaica), three step daughters; Olive McCord (Georgia), Pauline Graham (England), and Olive Beverly Hall (California), nine grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter. Special friends Dean and Evelyn Wint, her church family and a host of lifelong friends whom we were unable to reach to celebrate her life and legacy.
