Andy was born in West Palm Beach, Florida and raised in Juno Beach and Jupiter, where his lifelong love of the water began. His parents owned the iconic Juno Surf Shop, founded by his father, Thomas John Butterworth, Jr., and known as the oldest surf shop in Florida. Growing up around the shop, Andy developed a deep connection to the local surf and wakeboarding community. The shop became a gathering place for many, and it was there that Andy formed lifelong friendships and first discovered his natural gift for sales and connecting with people.
Andy lived life fully and loved fiercely. He was known for his quick wit, sharp sarcasm, and the ability to make anyone laugh. A natural storyteller, he loved working movie quotes into everyday conversations and was rarely without music playing—especially his favorite, Jimmy Buffett. Andy was the kind of person who made friends wherever he went and could turn any gathering into a celebration. To those who knew him best, he was often described as a “big teddy bear” with a huge heart.
Much of Andy’s happiest time was spent on or near the water. He loved boating, diving, fishing, and traveling to the Bahamas, a place that held a special place in his heart since childhood. He immersed himself in the culture there and formed many friendships over the years. Andy was also the family’s grill master, and his true culinary specialty was conch. Whether it was cracked conch, conch fritters, or conch salad, Andy perfected the dishes through years of trips to the islands and learning from locals along the way.
Andy spent his entire career in sales and built many lasting relationships through his work. He began his career with Brown Distributing/Budweiser, later worked with Snap-on Tools, and most recently was a Brand Specialist with Cheney Brothers for their Duck Deli specialty brand.
Above all else, Andy loved his family and friends deeply and fiercely. He was loyal, dependable, and the person everyone could count on. He would do anything for the people he loved and never hesitated to show up when someone needed him.
Andy is survived by his beloved wife, Lisa Butterworth (Catalfano). Andy and Lisa shared 10½ wonderful years together and were married for five. Though they once joked they would never get married, they knew how special their love was and ultimately chose to make it official. Andy passed away on their fifth wedding anniversary, a date that will forever reflect the deep bond they shared.
He is also survived by his daughters, Anna Butterworth and Andrea Butterworth; his stepchildren, Andrew “Drew” Carbone and Haley Carbone; his mother, Catherine Butterworth (Krueger); his brother, Thomas Butterworth and sister-in-law Jennifer Butterworth; and many extended family members who loved him dearly. Andy was preceded in death by his father, Thomas John Butterworth, Jr.
Andy also leaves behind his loving in-laws: Amy Catalfano; Tony Catalfano and his wife Susan; Salvatore “Sal” Catalfano and his wife Lisa “Elsie”; and Tracy Robinson and her fiancé Eric Williams.
Andy’s larger-than-life personality, humor, loyalty, and love for life will be deeply missed by everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. His family finds comfort in the countless memories he created and the love he shared so freely.
Andy will be cremated, and a portion of his ashes will be spread in one of his favorite places—the Bahamas—where the water, sunshine, and spirit of the islands he loved so much will carry his memory on.
In lieu of flowers, the family has established a GoFundMe to help support Lisa and the children as they navigate life after this unexpected loss and provide stability for their home during this difficult transition. Donations can be made at the following link:
