It is with enormous grief that we announce the passing of Carole Ann Skelly Mastics of Palm Beach, Fl. Carole was born on June 15, 1935, in Cleveland, Ohio to Ann Coughlin and William J. Skelly. Carole was raised in Cleveland, where she attended St. Augustine High School and Monticello College in Chicago, Illinois. She was the beloved wife of the late George E. Mastics, Esq.
Carole, lovingly known as “Queen Mother” was a devoted wife and selfless mother who took extraordinary care of her husband and children. Carole had a profound impact on family and friends. There are innumerable stories of Carole positively changing the trajectory of their lives. When our family moved to Palm Beach in 1975, she opened her house and her heart to everyone. She created a warm, comfortable home away from home for so many visitors. She hosted huge Sunday Brunches for all who were in town. In time and with George’s gentle urging, the constant stream of visitors slowed, but the spirit of hospitality and love that defined Carole never did.
She was in the Christ Child Society in Cleveland and President of St. Edwards Guild in Palm Beach. She was a long-time member of the Sailfish Club in Palm Beach. She grew up in a very tight knit family with one sister, the late Nancy A. O’Donnell (Tom), the late William Skelly (Mary), and the late John Skelly (Patricia). She is survived by children Karen Germain (Jerry), Anne Mastics, Mimi Vaughan (Jefferson), and George E Mastics Jr. (Lauren). She is survived by her grandchildren Melissa Lazarchick (Bill), Erin Nicoloso (Will), Jefferson Vaughan Jr. (Amy). Carole Ann Myers (Scott), Paige Coyle (Patrick), James Kugler Jr. (Aubyn), Brandon Kugler, Nicole Hartman (Darrell), George Mastics III (Sydney), Rachel Mastics. She is survived by 11 great grandchildren. Carole was predeceased by her husband, George E. Mastics ESQ., her cherished daughter Kathleen Mastics, and grandson George Kugler. We would like to thank her caregivers Anisha Chambers, Beverly McLawrence, Marcia Gordon and Marjorie Copeland for their tender care and endless patience. She was the most special wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother we will ever know, and we shall miss her dearly.
