I had the privilege of working alongside Fran, and she was truly one of the best—always ready to take on any job or challenge with joy, grace, and incredible leadership. 
Even when facing the hardest battle, she showed remarkable courage and hope. When I received my own difficult diagnosis, she surprised  me with a little book of Irrepressible Hope. That thoughtful gift came at just the right time, and I still treasure and read it to this day. It’s a reflection of the kindness and generosity she so naturally shared with others.
At her memorial service, I was not surprised to hear all the wonderful stories about how she gave of herself to family, friends, and even strangers whenever help was needed. It was exactly the person I knew her to be— someone who made the world better simply by being in it.

Fran just made lunches the best part of the day at Lake Worth Middle, and that was not only because they were delicious but because she would sit and eat with us. I so enjoyed her company and the conversations. She was so funny and after spending time with her, it just made the day brighter. I can still see that smile and hear her laugh. Thank you, Fran, for giving me some warm memories that I will always cherish. Rest easy dear Fran.

I’m so grateful for Fran! I became best friends with her daughter Jen about 27 years ago. Since then- she has treated us all like family- and to Fran that meant that you were the most incredible and precious creature she could hope to host! Her life - her choices- blessed countless others everywhere she went in an effortless ripple effect! Her secret was a solid understanding of her position- she was His, she was overloaded with gifts from Him and she was grateful beyond measure! Her joy was to serve others- especially with food- and I sincerely hope to just be more like her more and more and I told her so! She was lovely! Genuine, loyal, hardworking and full of a quiet energy. This seemed to be fueled by desire mixed with contentment. It’s a Fran thing… and it is beautiful!
I’ve called Fran the female version of Bob Johnson- that’s my dad and it’s a compliment all the way around. Those two just get it and they walk the talk! 
I’m honored to have my kids’ best friends share their Granny Franny with them. Fran is serving comfort dishes in heaven and “reveling in glory” with some of my absolute heroes! Can’t wait for the big family reunion one day. Until then- my love, gratitude and compassion lifts up Jen, Clif, Hope, Hayden and also Sandi, Carol, Billy, and their spouses, children and wonderful extended families! Thank you for allowing me to be yours.

Fran truly epitomized a true "lady". When I first started with the PBCSD in 1996, I was assigned to work with Fran at Lake Worth Middle. It was a real eye opener and I wasn't sure it was really for me. Fran talked me through it and continued mentoring me and being the voice of reason for the next 20 years until she retired.  She only had kind words and was always optimistic. She was an inspiration to many and her memory will live on. I sure she is being welcomed home by her Savior as she was living proof of Christ-like behavior.

Granny Billy loved and adored you and he talks about you all the time. You will truly be missed! 
Here is a beautiful memory of you taking us to Seaworld! It was an awesome day. Thank you for being his grandma!

The Florida School Nutrition Association (FSNA) is saddened by the loss of one of our School Nutrition Heroes and Past FSNA President, Fran Hickman.  Throughout her career, Fran touched countless lives of children throughout Palm Beach County Schools.  Fran was a true Difference Maker and will be missed.  Our thoughts and prayers go out to Fran's family and loved ones.

I was deeply saddened to hear about the loss of your mother. Though it’s been years since we’ve seen each other; growing up in the same neighborhood and going to school together, I remember how kind and welcoming she always was—she truly had a way of making everyone feel at home.
