

Dr. George C. Nichols was born on January 31, 1920 in Heliopolis, Cairo, Egypt; of Greek immigrant parents. His education culminated in Egypt with him being a high school teacher. He was able to obtain a visa and leave his native country to attend Berea College in Kentucky, USA; on a work scholarship. He obtained a B.A in economics from that institution. He was accepted to the University of Virginia where he obtained a Master in Arts (economics), and later a PhD in economics. He became an associate professor of economics at William and Mary College in Virginia. He went on to earn U.S citizenship and worked tirelessly for the United States and its citizens within the government as an international and national economist. His positions spanned over three decades and encompassed the international trade commission, National and International industrial development and planning, as well as the consumer product safety commission. He traveled extensively on behalf of our government and was well published in his chosen field of international economics.
Dr. Nichols is survived by loving relatives and friends. He was the first of four children from parents Irene and Haralambos Nicholakis. In true love he is survived by his constant companion, friend, and wife Aurania Nichols who he has been married to for over 60 years. He is survived by his sister Stella Bafitis, his brother Andrew Nicholakis and wife Chris, and by his brother Rev. Father Nick Nichols and his wife Helen. George has always been proud of his nieces and nephews and their children. His immediate relatives include Photini and Jeff Riner; Dr. Harold Bafitis and wife Ekaterini, Peter Bafitis and wife Hillary, Dr. Irene Nicholakis, Steven Nicholakis and wife Jenn, Raymond Nichols and Karen Nichols.
Friends may visit the family at the Aycock Funeral Home, 1112 Military Trail, Jupiter, Fl 33458 on Friday, May 9, 2014 from 4:00 pm to 10:30 pm. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Catherine Greek Orthodox Church, 110 Southern Blvd., West Palm Beach, Fl 33405 on Saturday, May 10, 2014 at 12:00 pm. Interment to follow at Riverside Memorial Park, 19351 SE County Line Rd., Tequesta, Fl 33469.
