John Joseph Petroff

John Joseph Petroff, aged 54, passed away on September 2, 2021. John was born on September 14, 1966 in Pontiac, MI. He graduated from Our Lady of the Lakes High School, Waterford, MI; and received his Bachelor’s degree from Florida State University.

He married his wife Margaretha Anna on December 29, 2006, and they celebrated 15 years of marriage before his passing. John founded and ran his own company, Skylight Sales of Florida, selling and installing custom skylights for 20 years.

John enjoyed cooking and grilling, sports and spending time with family and friends. What John was most passionate about were the small, everyday details of life spent with his wife, Margaretha, and their children: Joseph 11, Louisa 9 and Jackson 7.

Each day began with John packing everyone’s lunches and getting breakfast. He took great pride in making those lunches. During the day, between his jobs for work he would make a quick stop for groceries and other essentials for the family. After school, sports and practices were a family affair and John and Margaretha enjoyed this as if each frantic, coordinating of schedules was a special event.

He soaked in every day, every minute, every second of family time and fatherhood. John’s family was his complete and total joy.

Generous beyond measure, John’s humor, sarcastic wit, dedicated work ethic, skill at the grill and always welcoming, caring nature will be missed by all. An organ donor, in death John gave life, sight and health to countless needy individuals whom he never knew.

He is survived by his wife, Margaretha; three children: Joseph (11), Louisa (9), Jackson (7); siblings: Gay (& Dale) Kasza, Barbara Petroff and Fr. Steve Petroff, CSP, plus many nieces, nephews and great nieces & nephews.

Preceded in death by Joseph & Geraldine Petroff (parents) and Geralyn J. Berg (sister).

May John rest in the peace of Christ and may his generous spirit continue to enliven all who knew him.

The funeral will take place at Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church at 5495 Dixie Hwy, Waterford, Michigan 48329 on Friday, October 1, 2021 at 10:00 am. Please note, to enter the church, masks must be worn over the mouth and nose at all times.

A memorial for John will be held in Florida later in October. Date and time to be announced.
