1934 – 2025
Palm Beach Gardens, Florida Leo Joseph Hogan, Jr, 91, passed away peacefully at Watercrest Senior Living Community in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida on December 19, 2025, of pneumonia. A native New Jerseyan, Leo was born September 10, 1934, in Paterson, New Jersey to the late Margaret (Van Blarkum) and Leo Joseph Hogan, Senior. Leo’s wife of 55 years, Teresa Ann Geraldine (Sepe) predeceased him in death in 2014 in Pittsgrove, NJ. An avid outdoorsman, Leo loved spending days hunting and fishing. He was a black powder cartridge rifle enthusiast, enjoying the challenge, history and craftsmanship of the Old West /19th century shooting experience, spending many enjoyable hours at the range and in the field.
Leo was also a member of the Centerton Fire Company in Pittsgrove, NJ where he actively served for many years as a firefighter and a commissioner, forming close lifelong bonds with other members. He was also an amateur radio operator, and with his wife Terry, remained active in club activities and early packet radio operations. Leo owned a 30-foot Hunter sailboat he named “Cheers,” on which he and Terry enjoyed many day and overnight trips, even occasionally racing. Both were licensed to take sailboats for hire.
In his younger years, Leo served as a Scout Master, guiding his son Mark and other scouts to satisfying the requirements to earn their 21 merit badges to attain the rank of Eagle Scout. Leo enjoyed working with his hands and served as an Operating Engineer with NJ Local 825 where he found the challenge of running heavy machinery and tower cranes gratifying. He also spent several years as a Seabee in the U.S. Navy Civil Engineering Corps traveling to Alaska and the Philippines. Leo will also be remembered for his biting sense of humor.
The most important thing in life to Leo was his family. His surviving children include his son Charles (Rebecca) Hogan of Broken Arrow, OK; his daughter Maureen (Rhonda Ritz) of Marlton, NJ; his son Mark (Sherry) Hogan of Sand Springs, OK; his daughter Catherine Hanaoka of Pound Ridge, NY; and his daughter Mary (Andrew) Bartel of Pound Ridge, NY.
