Maurice “Moe” Longo, 74, passed away Wednesday June 10, 2015 at Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center, joining his brother Michael and their parents Mae and Michael Longo in peace with our Divine Lord and Creator.
Born in Brooklyn, Maurice, with his family, moved to northeastern Pennsylvania at an early age, and went on to graduate from Penn State University with a degree in mechanical engineering. His lifelong engineering career was in fuels control at Pratt-Whitney in Connecticut, moving to the Florida facility in 1976, often traveling to U.S. Navy and Air Force facilities where he formed a kinship with military personnel, whom he deeply admired and respected. For a number of years after retirement, he continued his career as a consulting engineer in the aviation industry.
Maurice’s retirement years were enjoyed at home as a benevolent kibitizer operating from his man cave of the front screened porch, where he would welcomed friends and neighbors to “set a spell," and where his neighborhood cat friends often came to visit and dine. He also enjoyed making cookies and brownies and his baked goods became famous in the many offices and businesses that he frequented.
Maurice is survived by Mary, his wife of 48 years, and their two daughters, Andrea Okay of San Francisco, and Karen Corliss of Denver, Colorado, both having followed their Dad into engineering careers. Adding, his beloved Italian-American family from New York to Florida and beyond.
Friends may gather on Wednesday, June 17 from 5-6pm at Howard-Quattlebaum Funeral, Cremation and Event Center. A memorial service will follow at 6pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Maurice’s honor may be made to The Salvation Army National Headquarters, P.O. Box 269, Alexandria, VA 22314 or Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas 66675, which were among his favorite charities. Online messages and memorable anecdotes are welcome at howard-pricefuneralhome.com.
