Born November 12, 1937, in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, Bill spent most of his youth in Scotch Plains, New Jersey, where he graduated from Scotch Plains–Fanwood High School. He attended Fairleigh Dickinson University in Madison, NJ, and served honorably in the Army National Guard.
Bill and his wife, Claire, and their two daughters lived in Scotch Plains, NJ before relocating to Danbury, Connecticut, in 1968. He enjoyed a long career in records management with American Can Company in Edison, NJ, New York City, and Greenwich, CT. He later worked as a consultant for Mercedes-Benz and American Maize and finished his career with the City of Danbury Building Department before retiring in 1999.
Retirement allowed Bill and Claire time to travel extensively, creating treasured memories with family and friends. Together they enjoyed life as “snowbirds,” dividing their time between Danbury, Connecticut, and North Palm Beach, Florida. Following Claire’s passing in 2010, Bill moved to Florida full-time. A few years later, Bill met Dorothy (Dotty) LeValley, and the two shared many happy years together in Palm Beach Gardens until her passing in 2020. In his final years, Bill made his home at Brookdale Senior Living in Palm Beach Gardens.
Bill devoted much of his life to service and fellowship. He was a member of the Association of Records Management Managers (ARMA) and a proud member of the Elks for 62 years. He began his membership at the Scotch Plains, NJ, lodge and then continued with Danbury Lodge #120 for 57 years. He held many leadership positions, including Exalted Ruler (twice), Past Exalted Ruler, Past Connecticut State President, and Past District Deputy - Grand Exalted Ruler for the CT Southwest District. Bill also served as State Hoop Shoot Chairman, as well as District and Local Chairman for the Elks National Foundation, and was an advisory board member for Newington Children’s Hospital (now Connecticut Children’s Medical Center).
In addition, Bill was a member of the North Palm Beach Yacht Club, the Palm Beach Gardens Moose Lodge 2010, and the Oceanview United Methodist Church in Juno Beach, FL.
Bill is survived by his daughters, Robin M. Dann and her husband, Larry, of New Milford, CT, and Lauren J. Miller and her husband, Camron Johnson, of Round Lake, IL; grandchildren Ryan Dann and his wife, Grayson Izard Dann, of Newington, CT; Heather Dann and her fiancé, Christopher Cole, of New Milford, CT; and Zachary Dann and his wife, Jessica Dann, of Reinholds, PA; as well as great-grandchildren Olivia Dann, Annabelle Dann, Matthew Dann, and Owen Dann.
