

He was born April 25, 1951 in Rosetown, Saskatchewan, the son of Elsie and Hervey Benjamin and the third of five siblings. He was recently predeceased by his brother, Gordon.
Al's career in the movie industry began with his work on props for Rainbow Wars, Expo ‘86 in Vancouver and with his work on special effects in American Gothic in 1987. He created special effects for countless projects until 2012 earning the respect of the industry as a special effects wizard who always put the safety of cast and crew first. Al retired from special effects but continued to mentor young people entering the industry.
Al will be lovingly remembered by his wife Kim; daughter JJ and grandchildren Justin, Mckenzie and Cody; by son Marc; by daughter Jaki (Kane) and grandson, Cash; by sisters Diana, Darlene (Jim), and Donna; by nephew Paul (Rebecca) and grandniece and grandnephew Natalie and Riley; and nephew Josh (Tina) who worked with Al for many years; and by numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends who were an important part of his life.
Al was never shy to lift the weight of responsibility and carry challenges to completion. The life he lived was the essence of a life fully lived.
We will remember Al for his love of his family of whom he was so proud, for his brilliant creative mind, his big, generous heart, and his indomitable spirit. He touched the lives of so many.
