It is with a deep sense of loss that we announce the death of our loving father Bruce Alexander McTavish on 22, July 2024, in Burnaby, B.C., Canada. Dad was born on 7 April 1930 and grew up in Shaughnessy, Vancouver, B.C., Canada. He went to Prince of Wales High School where he excelled in track & field, football and rugby. In the 1950s, Dad met and subsequently married Patricia (Pat) Ann Burniston. They had a home built in the Deep Cove area of North Vancouver where they lived happily for many years before moving to a charming new Champlain Heights townhome in South Vancouver. They had a beautiful A-Frame second home built at Harrison Lake which the family and friends enjoyed for many years. Mom and Dad were excellent dancers and they loved to dance to the Jones Boys in the Copper Room at the Harrison Hotel Resort.
Dad was a real leader, a hard worker and a very generous and kind soul. He was involved in the community and for many years would pick up garbage in his neighbourhood for which the City of Vancouver recognized him several times. He owned his own successful business, Westco Safe & Vault and for several years son Peter joined him in this venture. Dad loved people and had many loyal customers over the years that thought the world of him. He loved all sorts of music, especially dixieland jazz and classical. For over 70 years, he continued to meet regularly with his closest high school mates in their ‘The Royal Order of the Golden Grommet’ group and was one of the last surviving members. Dad is predeceased by his parents, Adelaide Henrietta McTavish nee Meilicke and Alexander Morrision McTavish, his older sister, Shirley Ripley, and his wife, Pat. He is survived by his two sons, Peter (Cheryl) and Brent (Bryan), and two grandchildren, Corey and Amy.
