

Catherine Hartley Higgins grew up in Kingston in a Salvation Army family, and served as an Officer in the WRNS during WWII in Nova Scotia and Newfoundland. In 1952 she married J. Bruce Hutchinson in Montreal and raised their two children Martha and Douglas in Montreal and London, before moving to West Vancouver in 1974, where they enjoyed their retirement years. The last of her generation, she was predeceased by her parents Eva (Escott) and Wilfrid Higgins, her husband Bruce Hutchinson, her Kingston brothers Wilfrid Higgins and William Higgins and sisters-in-law Lee Higgins and Esther Higgins, her Vancouver sisters-in-law Keith (Hutchinson) Millar and Boo (Hutchinson) Barker and brothers-in-law Jim Millar and Dave Barker. She was also predeceased by her nephews Scott Higgins and Rob Barker. She is survived by her daughter Martha Hutchinson and son-in-law Blair Clarke, by her son Douglas Hutchinson and daughter-in-law Martha Perrier, and by her granddaughter Anna Hutchinson and grandson Silas Hutchinson and their mother Cathy (Davis) Hutchinson, as well as her Vancouver nieces and nephews John, David, Kim, and Stephen Millar, and Jim Barker and Kate (Barker) Puch, and her Kingston nieces and nephews Jocelyn and Derek Higgins, and John, Wilfrid, Caleb, Rebecca, and Tom Higgins.
