Clarke was born in Vancouver, BC on September 10th, 1949 and died peacefully on June 24th, 2025 surrounded by his immediate family.
Clarke was predeceased by his wife Joanne Dappollonio and his nephew Lee, both whom he loved dearly. He is survived by his twin step-children, Kevin and Kim Dappollonio; his nephew Billy and his twin daughters, Carys and Piper; nephews Jean-Paul and Michael; his two nieces, Julie-Ann and her adult son Hunter; Nicole and her adult twins, Madelaine and Bennett, and their youngest sibling. Tanner.
Clarke will be sorely missed by his "Irish Twin” Elaine and his "baby” sister Yvonne, younger by five years. They loved him unconditionally and would do anything for their brother, well, almost anything! And Clarke certainly would, and did for them.
Clarke’s favourite and closest cousin was Richard, who was more like a "big brother.” He loved Richard’s son Ryan like he was his own. Lots of stories regarding those three amigos!
For high School, Clarke attended Vancouver College and later Killarney Secondary where he played football and developed excellent skills at wrestling and won competitions. At 16, he chose to join the Navy and went to Halifax, Nova Scotia for "Boot Camp” where he quickly learned only smokers got a 15 minute break and thus developed a lifelong relationship with cigarettes.
Clarke loved fishing, catching prawns and crabs and after cooking up a seafood feast to share with friends and family. He was an excellent cook and often talked about how he would have liked to become a chef. He was a man of many talents, especially working with his hands. He was an expert at drywall and enjoyed renovating bathrooms and kitchens. He was a "Jack of all trades,” and never shied away from a challenge. Whatever Clarke tackled in life, he did it well and his work was second to none.
In his retirement years, , Clarke was proud to be nominated the Vice-President of the Army, Navy & Airforce Club (ANAF) on 3rd in North Vancouver. He was there seven days a week and loved every minute; it was truly his second home. Clarke developed many friendships with the customers over the years, but he especially enjoyed sitting at "THE TABLE” with his favourite person, the President of the ANAF, Steve; in fact, the two of them were in the midst of planning a vacation to México. Steve, as the President, decided, out of respect and honour for Clarke, to lower the Club’s Canadian flag to half mast until after his Celebration of Life.
The female bartenders at the ANAF, especially Kelly, Marlene and Sheila, were always caring and loving toward Clarke and thus were relentless at informing his "Irish Twin” about Clarke’s health, which inevitably would lead to doctors’ appointments whether he wanted to attend or not.
Some might be surprised to learn, that Clarke enjoyed doing Crosswords, watching the History Channel and the show How Things Are Made and, believe it or not, he enjoyed hooking rugs. Apparently he was very good at pool and had lots of fun playing with his dear friend Kerry at the ANAF Club.
Clarke led his life the way he wanted: no apologies and certainly no regrets. Anyone who met Clarke liked him, if not, loved him. He was a gentle, kind soul who anyone would enjoy having a beer with. Clarke will be truly missed by all those who had the privilege of knowing him.
A celebration of Clarke's life will be held at First Memorial Boal Chapel, 1505 Lillooet Road, North Vancouver on Wednesday, August 27, 2025 at 2:00 pm with a reception to follow.
