It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of David Alexander – a beloved son, partner, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend to many. David passed away peacefully at Lions Gate Palliative Care surrounded by the love of his family.
David was born in Vancouver where he attended Sir Sandford Fleming Elementary up to grade six. His family then moved to West Vancouver where he attended Gleneagles Elementary and went on to graduate from West Vancouver Secondary.
Starting from his early teens David worked at the family business, Dick’s Lumber. He started as a yard runner, onto forklift and truck driver and then became one of Dick’s top salesmen. When Dick’s opened its new store in Surrey David became the store manager. After many years of experience, David moved to the head office in Burnaby where he was promoted to General Manager of Dick’s Lumber, overseeing three stores and almost 300 valued employees. David loved the lumber business and was very well liked and respected in the industry. After selling the lumber business in 2008, David, along with his mother and sister, formed an investment company where he worked until his passing.
David was a kind and caring man with a great sense of humour. He was a devoted partner, a very proud father and a loving grandfather. David will be remembered by his many cousins and dear friends whose support over the past year meant so much to him.
David enjoyed life to the fullest. He loved his many holidays to Maui, Palm Springs and Mexico. David was a member of the RVYC and spent many happy days cruising the local waters on his boat “NAUTI-TIME”. David liked the simple pleasures whether it be walks along the West Van Seawall, playing with his puppy Tina, family meals at the Whitespot or enjoying a glass of his favourite Chardonnay at Pastamelis or Earls.
Lovingly remembered by his mother Delma, partner Melissa Reed (her daughter Lilly), children Richard, Jason (Kamila), Kyle, Faith, and grandson Ace. Also forever missed by his sister Karen Reano, nieces Brandi Kleaman (Chris) and Kelsey Reano (Aaron). David was predeceased by his father, Dick Alexander and brother-in-law, Paul Reano.
David will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him.
In lieu of flowers donations in David’s memory can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the BCSPCA.
