It is with heavy hearts we announce that Donald George Chitty passed away on January 24th in North Vancouver, with his daughters at his bedside.
Don was born a Christmas Miracle on December 25th, 1927 in Chilliwack, BC. His parents, Cyril Chitty and Pheobe May Chitty, welcomed their Christmas baby with much excitement. Don had siblings brother, Ken and sister, Audrey.
The family eventually relocated to the North Shore, and settled in to West Vancouver.
Don eventually met a beautiful bride-to-be named Daphne.
Don and Daphne would build a life together, welcoming their daughters Denise and Kim, and owning the little blue house across from Pauline Johnson Elementary, a visual staple of the street. Eventually, they welcomed their grandchildren: Crystal and Clayton. And then, their great-grandchild Max.
Don left a long legacy throughout his life in West Vancouver. He was a beloved teacher and principal in the West Van community. He impacted the lives of many of his students, starting the first Girls Empowerment Group in 1970 who were Called The Green Cobras!
His strong work ethic continued into his 90’s. He kept the West Van Legion parking lot neat and tidy with a sweep every morning.
Don had a love for all his animals, especially his dogs. But the most important love was his family.
He was an amazing Husband, Father, Brother, Grandfather, Great Grandfather and, most importantly, a friend to many.
He lived his life selflessly and with empathy. He will truly be missed.
But we will see him again in another life. Thank you to all who were a part of his life.
As well: a huge thank you to everyone at Cedarview Lodge Care Home, especially the staff in Pine Forrest, for the love and care they gave our father. You’re Angels in Disguise ❤️
A service will be announced in the Spring at the West Van Legion!
