Doreen was a chorus-dancer in the Night Club days. She danced and charmed her way into many hearts as a performer with the Coronet Dancers in Vancouver of the 1950s. She performed mostly at The Cave Supper Club with the finest and most famous Headliners of the day. She also performed in Alaska (before it was a State as she frequently noted), and then south through Seattle, Portland and all the way to Las Vegas. She enjoyed those years on the stage and made a few friendships that lasted her entire life. She could regale her family with interesting, funny and adorable stories. She was at heart an entertainer.
She was also a stunning beauty with a beguiling charm and sparkling personality that lit up any room she entered. She was sought by many, and she probably broke a few hearts along the way, but then she met the man of her dreams, Norman John Esary. They captured each other’s hearts and they were instant soul-mates…
She was Katherine Hepburn to his Spencer Tracy. She was Lauren Bacall to his Humphrey Bogart. And on a lighter note she was quite often Lucy to his Ricky Ricardo. Their love was as complete as it gets. Sadly he passed too soon and Doreen carried a torch for him for the rest of her life. They are back together now.
She is missed by her son Richard Martin, grandson Cole Martin and daughter-in-law Kim Steer. Also missed by her life-long friends and chorus-dancing partners Sheril and Kay. Also by dear friends Corrine, Derek, Michael, Leif, Patrick and many more.
As the Nat King Cole song says (and she performed with him by-the-way), “Unforgettable in every way. And forevermore, that’s how you’ll stay”
