Beckett, Douglas Lorne was born February 23,1934 in Swift Current Saskatchewan. He passed away August 2,2024 in Burnaby B.C. Survived by wife Murlene Beckett; children Mike (Nancy), Sandra (Bruce), Sam (Natalie); grandchildren Danny (Milo), Ben (Katie),Trent (Victoria), Courtlen (Vera), Samantha (Simon), Curtis (Lucia), Amy (Mackenzie); and great grandchildren Peter, Mona, Io, Lily, Grace and Natalie. He is also survived by brother in-law John (Doc) Cumbers plus many nieces and nephews.
Douglas Beckett had a long career with the Vancouver Fire Department retiring in 1993 as a Battalion Chief. He was a carpenter who built our family home as well as houses in the Coquitlam area. An avid golfer, Doug belonged to the Burnaby Mountain and Golden Golf Clubs. Doug was passionate in his role as co-founder of the first Board of Directors of the Firefighters 314 Holding Society, Hose & Hydrant Fireman’s Club.
Dad enjoyed hosting family dinners, playing golf, and cheering on his kids and grandkids as they played sports and travelled. He also enjoyed lunches out with buddies Joe Salley and Roy Porter
The family is grateful for the support and friendship of long-term neighbours Summer’s, Koll's, Haye’s, Ulmer’s, McCarthy’s and Nesbitt’s.
We will miss Dad dearly and thank him for the time he spent with us.
