Elizabeth “Liz” McIntyre (née Hale), a fun-loving, vibrant soul known for her creativity, wit, and unwavering kindness, passed away unexpectedly at the age of 78 on March 3, 2025. Liz was born on October 30, 1946, in Vancouver, BC, and was a long-term North Shore resident, from Deep Cove to West Vancouver.
A passionate artist, Liz had a special love for batik design, which she turned into a successful business in the 1980s with her boutique, Lizan, in West Vancouver. Her unique clothing and artwork adorned many North Shore homes, and she even designed for notable figures, including Margaret Trudeau. In her Beachview Drive art room in Deep Cove, she also explored pottery, finding joy in every piece she created. In addition to her artistic pursuits, Liz taught art at Capilano University, specializing in life drawing.
Liz had an exceptional gift for making people feel valued, turning customers into lifelong friends through her warmth and genuine care. She didn’t just create clothing and artwork—she crafted personal connections, ensuring each piece reflected the individuality of those she served. With unmatched attention to detail, she took pride in helping others look and feel their best. Her passion for service extended beyond design, as she believed great customer care was about more than just the product—it was about the experience and the relationships built along the way.
Liz lived life to the fullest, always ready with a sharp-witted comment or a story that could make you laugh. She was deeply devoted to her children and, later, to her beloved grandchildren, Ava and Max, bringing them endless joy with creative surprises, funny sayings, and heartfelt gestures. She loved a good party, great food, and being surrounded by family and friends. In her later years, despite limited mobility, she remained socially active—often the first to leave a witty comment on family photos.
Her favorite color was green, and she cherished her family vacations in Maui, Hawaii. Liz was a passionate supporter of causes close to her heart, especially the SPCA and heart and stroke research.
Liz was predeceased by her parents, Mary Patricia “Pat” and Frederick Robert Hale. She is survived by her children, Elisa McIntyre (Milan Arbutina) and Todd McIntyre; her grandchildren, Ava and Max Arbutina; her siblings, Robert, Judith, Carol, and Bruce Hale; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the BC SPCA in honor of her love for animals. A heartfelt thank you to the caregivers at Vancouver Coastal Health for their support.
Liz’s enduring advice was simple: cherish family and friends, create lasting memories, and live life to the fullest. Her humor, kindness, and creativity will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
A service of inurnment for Elizabeth ("Liz") will be held on Friday, May 2nd, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at North Vancouver Cemetery, 1700 Lillooet Road, North Vancouver, BC.
