It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear friend, Eva Geiling, who died peacefully after her 93rd birthday.
Eva was born in 1932 in Nuremberg, Germany, where she grew up during the Second World War. She and her family endured the hardships of repeated heavy bombardments, which destroyed their home several times.
After the war, Eva worked as an accountant and married her husband, Ludwig, in 1960. For economic reasons, the couple immigrated to Canada and settled in Vancouver. Eva faced deep sorrow when Ludwig passed away in 1977. With courage and resilience, she continued to build her life, working in various accounting positions. She proudly became a Canadian citizen in 1978.
Eva loved the history of her adopted home and had a particular passion for Canadian ice hockey. After her retirement, she filled her life with joy, welcoming many visiting relatives and friends, and travelling frequently to Europe and other destinations.
Eva became an active member of Oakridge Lutheran Church in Vancouver, where her faith grew strong. She served faithfully and diligently as the Church Financial Secretary until December 31, 2019. After moving to private independent living, she enjoyed daily activities, treasured the companionship of her best friend who lived in the same residence, made new friends, and continued to enjoy life fully.
She faithfully attended Sunday services at King of Life Lutheran Church in Coquitlam via Zoom and participated in several in-person services and special events. She also continued to join online German worship services in Germany. Eva remained remarkably skilled with her computer, even in her very senior years.
Eva will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all members of her church communities.
