Evanghelos (Angelo) Macroyannis passed away peacefully on February 20, 2026, two months shy of his 94th birthday at the North Shore Hospice. He was the fourth child of seven born to Maria and Dimitrios in the town of Galatas, Peloponnese, Greece on April 21, 1932.
He grew up facing the challenges of the Great Depression and World War II and dreamt of a better life. After serving in the Greek military, Angelo travelled the world as a Seaman and carried the values of his homeland across many oceans, arriving in Vancouver, B.C. He became a proud member of Union Local 40 in Food Services and fed thousands of workers in logging camps across British Columbia. Angelo later settled in Penticton, B.C. with his lovely wife Chryssanthi and raised their two children along her side. He was a pillar for the Greek community and helped many friends establish themselves and later develop successful restaurant businesses for their families.
Angelo was a generous soul. He gave away whatever he had, including hand-picked fruit from his treasured cherry, apricot and apple trees to both neighbours and passersby. This act was often accompanied by a passionate story, demonstrating his knowledge of global events and love of sports like soccer and wrestling. Above all, Angelo loved people and he was not afraid to show it with words and actions, usually around a dinner table with a glass of wine and a joyful, "Στην υγειά μας!" or "To our health!"
A man of strength, honour, and tireless devotion to his family. Angelo taught us the meaning of philotimo and the importance of coming together. May his soul rest in peace, and may his stories live on through us all. "Αιωνία η μνήμη." "Memory Eternal."
Angelo will be deeply missed by his beloved wife of 53 years, Chryssanthi; loving children, Maria (Chad) and Georges; cherished grand-daughters, Sofie and Emilie and many friends and neighbours. We would like to thank Dr. Hejdankova and staff: RN Judy and MOA Magda for their exceptional care and support, along with: VCH Community Health Case Manager Nooran and staff; Lions Gate Hospital staff and North Shore Hospice doctors and nurses for providing compassionate care and comfort to Angelo. We are eternally grateful.
