Garry William Melton

It is with much sadness that we inform you GARRY MELTON passed away. He slipped away peacefully in his sleep on Friday, July 1, 2022 surrounded by family and supported by caring staff of HAU at Lions Gate Hospital. Garry was born December 29, 1941 in Hagersville, ON to Alice and Bill Melton. He grew up in North Vancouver, the oldest of five children. As a young teen, his passion was playing baseball for North Shore Connie Mack and later shared that passion with his three daughters and grandchildren. Attending Sutherland Junior High and North Van High, Garry made many lifelong friends and met his high school sweetheart, Penny Roach. They married on June 8, 1964 and just recently celebrated their 58th anniversary. Garry worked with B.C. Telephone from age 20 until early retirement at age 55, building many friendships along the way. Once he retired, he often said he wondered when he had time to work. Garry was a truly devoted and treasured husband, father, Papa and friend. He was an incredibly generous spirit, had a wonderful sense of humor and was always ready to help whenever needed. He was passionate about all his family and friends, loved playing baseball, golfing and darts. Garry always supported his children, grandchildren and their friends and encouraged them all to follow their dreams. His favourite place to unwind was our Cariboo cabin with family and friends. Whether it was fishing, dirt biking, sitting around the campfire enjoying the amazing scenery, or making his incredible “Papa” breakfasts… his specialty was pancakes. Garry enjoyed every moment. He was always extra “Happy” when we would recall special memories of “Papa and Ma daycare” with the grandchildren. His heart was full because of this special time together. In the last half of his life, he faced several severe health issues but always tried to be so positive. Garry leaves to sorely miss him, his true soulmate, Penny (Roach) Melton; daughters: Kenna (Sean), grandchildren, James and Genoa; Paige (Michael), grandchildren, Braeden and Caeley; and Laura (Mike), grandchild, Cameron and little pals, Bentley and Bijou. Garry also leaves behind his sisters: Sandra and family, Gail (Ron) and family, brother, Wayne (Jane) and family and many maternal nieces, nephews, cousins and very special friends.

A Celebration of Garry’s Life will be held at Seymour Golf and Country Club located at 3723 Mt. Seymour Parkway, North Vancouver, on August 30, 2022 from 1:00pm to 4:00pm. If you would like to attend, please RSVP Laura Macleod at [email protected] by August 23rd, 2022.
