Born in Calgary, George arrived on the West Coast with his parents, Lars and Gerda, during the difficult years of the Great Depression. Lars was a skilled and knowledgeable gardener who managed to feed many people during the hardships of that time. When young George had finished his daily chores he became an avid adventurer among the nooks and crannies of Lynn Valley and other fine features of the North Shore.
After graduation from North Vancouver High School, George joined the Royal Canadian Artillery, became an officer and served in the Korean War. He remained in the army for several years. His military service left an indelible mark on his views of war and all it entails.
While serving in the army he studied and obtained accreditation as a Chartered Professional Accountant. Soon after that he left the army and joined the office of Canada's Auditor General. A stint within the national office, of what is now known as CPA, followed. New opportunities beckoned as he developed a career in law office management and practised with several
distinctive law firms in Toronto and Edmonton. He subsequently formed his own company.
Upon retirement he returned to North Vancouver to enjoy the company of old friends and family. He was a helpful guide and steadying hand when needed and could be counted on to keep a promise; he was an engaging raconteur blessed with a remarkable memory. This was a time when he kept a few chosen clients, enjoyed walk-abouts with his furry chum (Kai - dog), and what seemed to be a favourite mantra—"Ah! Butter and Sugar! It's gotta be good!" He is survived by his loving wife Anne, his daughter Ricki Anne (Fred), his brothers Jack (Millie) and Charles (Vicky) and treasured friends.
We will remember with deep gratitude the kindness extended to our family by the medical staff at Lion's Gate Hospital who were in attendance at George's death. Thank you.
By George's request and reflective of our COVID -19 environment, there will be no service of remembrance.
