Gordon Jacklin passed peacefully in North Vancouver on March 18. Gordon is survived by six of his children, Denis, Gerald, Patrick (Lindsay), Tim, Clare, and Donald (Michelle), his three sisters, Aileen, Norma, Jeanette, and his thirteen grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife Rita and his children Mary, Mark, and Carol-Ann.
Gordon was born in Dodsland, SK. to Lillian Emelia Meunier of Mosside, AB. and Roy Bramwell Jacklin of London, ON.
Gordon was proud veteran. At 17 years old, Gordon signed up for the Canadian Army, but his mother refused to sign the paperwork, so he waited until he was 18 to enlist. Thereafter, he spent 2 years in the Army.
Gordon met Rita in Saskatoon while traveling for work. They soon fell in love and subsequently married on a snowy February 2nd, 1955, in Saskatoon. They moved to Vancouver to start a family. And a family they had: 6 boys and 3 girls. The family resided in Lynn Valley and Gordon continued to live there until his passing.
Gordon will be remembered as a kind, family man who loved spending time with his grandchildren, tending to his backyard garden, and cooking. His passion for cooking came after he retired when he instead took over the family duties owing to the fact that after many years of raising 9 kids it was Rita who wholeheartedly deserved to retire.
We take solace in the fact that after 10 years of being apart, Gordon and Rita are reunited with one another.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.firstmemorialnorthvancouver.com for the Jacklin family.
