Gordon “Skip” Arthur Walter passed away peacefully on May 15, 2025, at North Shore Hospice. Born in 1943 in Chicago, Illinois, Skip lived a life driven by curiosity, pursuit of knowledge and adventure.
He is predeceased by his mother, Florence Irene Monroe, his father, Charles Walter, and his brother, Monroe. He is lovingly remembered by his daughters, Allison and Nicola, and his cherished grandchildren, Carina, Bruce, Arvo, and Ruudi.
Skip had a strong sense of adventure and a deep love for the sea. In the summer, he could be found racing Star boats, waterskiing, or exploring the RVYC outstations. Winter was dedicated to racking up the vertical at Cypress or Whistler. He embraced leisure with the same passion he brought to everything in life—nothing by half measures.
Gordon was an active member with his Church - he took on leadership roles and developed deep friendships. An eternal student at heart, Skip pursued knowledge both within and beyond the classroom. Rarely seen with fictional novel in hand, preferring elucidating literature on topics such as human history, religious traditions, and philosophy. Photography and visual art were lifelong passions, offering him a creative outlet and a way to see the world anew.
Moving to Vancouver in 1970, joining UBC Faculty at UBC Commerce as a tenured professor, with a focus on Organizational Behavior, later in the MBA program at Sauder. Concurrently, he consulted with TEC Presidents as a pioneer in Executive Business Consulting. Colleagues credit him to shaping development in Business Managerial models & consulting. Post retirement he went on to work with Investors and Tech Entrepreneurs in the Angel investment community.
A memorial service will be held at the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club – Jericho on Thursday, June 26 at 11:00 a.m., where friends and family are warmly invited to gather in remembrance.
