Game set and match, Jean/Mum/Kiku/Mrs Harris was born in Kobe Japan to Scottish parents and passed peacefully in North Vancouver. Jean was predeceased by husband Bill Harris (Feb 2010), sister Margaret Brown and brother Hector Buchanan. Jean spent the first 13 years of her life in Japan at the Canadian Academy. When WWII broke out the family moved to Vancouver. After graduating from King George High School she went on to attend UBC and graduate with a degree in math and history. She met Bill at BC Electric where she worked in the human resources department. She was one of the first women in BC to get her float plane license. Jean was a life time learner, savvy investor, human rights and democracy advocate, and an early environmentalist. Her door was always open to family, friends and neighbours. Even though she was in a lot of pain from her scoliosis, she never let it interfere with her quality of life from playing tennis (and then badminton) to riding her bike and swimming at Spanish Banks well into her 80s. She showed us how to age gracefully. She will be missed by all those that had the pleasure of knowing her. She is survived by her daughter Barbara Vincent (Doug), son Rob Harris (Bettina) and grandchildren Lauren, Dana, Brendan and Ryan. There will be no service as per Jean’s request. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to a charity of your choice and enjoy a vodka tonic in Jean’s honour at your next family gathering.
