Jean Roberts

It is with great sadness that the Roberts family announce the peaceful passing of their beloved mom, aunt and grandma, Jean.

Born on July 18, 1940, Jean was the eldest of two daughters of Neil and Agnes MacKinnon. Jean was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, Jim. She is survived by her daughters, Nancy (Liz), Stephanie (Paul); granddaughters, Danielle and Erika; sister Judy (Rick); sister-in-law, Kay; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Jean was born in Matsqui, BC and raised in New Westminster. Once married, Jean lived in Nanaimo, BC and Sherwood Park, Alberta, before settling in Deep Cove, North Vancouver.

After training at Saint Paul’s Hospital (Class of ’61), Jean spent her working life as an Operating Room Nurse. Her 47-year career spanned the ORs of Saint Paul’s, Nanaimo General, Surrey Memorial, Royal Alexander (Edmonton) and 28 years at Lions Gate Hospital in North Vancouver.

Jean and her late husband Jim were the visionaries for the unique Seniors Housing Co-Operative, The Atrium at Parkgate. Through their dedication and perseverance, an affordable condominium community for seniors was built in 1997 and is thriving today.

Jean had a big heart and compassionate spirit. She was known for her crafty nature and especially her masterful knitting skills. She always welcomed fun and at any gathering she ensured a good time was had by all!

The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of Sunrise of Lynn Valley, Lions Gate Hospital 4 North, and the North Shore Hospice Society.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Boal Chapel on Thursday July 16, 2026, at 2:00pm with reception to follow. The service will be live streamed from the First Memorial Boal Chapel website. https://funeraweb.tv/diffusions/123237
