Born in Vancouver on July 11th, 1960 to the late Thomas (Gain Fook) and Kay (nee Louie) (Shui Ho) Won, Kerry spent his early childhood years growing up with his older brother Fred in Vancouver’s Chinatown neighbourhood. In the late 60’s, the family moved to North Vancouver. Even at a young age, Kerry helped his parents make an earnest living with the Percolator Cafe and Superette on Queensbury Avenue.
After graduating from Argyle Secondary, Kerry went on to study at the University of British Columbia where he met his first late wife, Jenny (née Wong). Upon graduating with a Bachelors of Commerce, Kerry continued his education and professional certifications by completing his CPA and CGA programs. While education was something that Kerry always held in the highest regard, the bigger priority was family; together, he and Jenny raised two beautiful children, Shelby and Morgan Won in North Vancouver until her passing in 2006. From then, he became impossibly more devoted as a single-parent, all while continuing his career. For the last 20 years of his professional career, Kerry worked until retiring from the District of West Vancouver as a Manager of Finance.
Kerry is survived by his wife Ying Li (Lily) Luo, children Shelby and Morgan Won, step-daughter Bing Luo and step grandson, Ray Luo.
His greatest wish was to raise a beautiful family, travel and live a good life. While it was cut far too short, Kerry’s friends and families will remember his legacy as a kind, generous and quick witted man. A loving husband, son, incredible father, brother, uncle, nephew and friend to so many that will continue to remember Kerry and the heartwarming memories he has provided us throughout his life.
In lieu of flowers, Kerry’s family asks that donations be made to The Kidney Foundation of Canada, BC & Yukon Branch (kidney.ca) in his name (e-card recipient email: [email protected]) . As a successful recipient of a kidney transplant, Kerry was able to enjoy the last 20 years and both he and his family and friends are all grateful for that time together
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.firstmemorialnorthvancouver.com for the Won family.
