January 11, 1932 - January 16, 2018
It is with great sadness that the family of Lois Marie Moe (nee Townsend) announce the passing of our mom, grandmother and great grandmother. Lois was predeceased by her parents Archibald Townsend and Margaret (nee Wilson), husband Bill Moe and infant daughter Sherrie. She will be lovingly remembered by her children, daughter Sandra Stokmo (Al), son Bradley (Brenda) and son Randall. She will also be missed by her granddaughters Richelle Moe, Kirsten (Jason) Pryor, Kym (Martyn) Evans and Charlene Moe as well as great-granddaughters Jayde Evans and Olivia Pryor.
Mom was born in Vancouver; the only child of Archie and Margaret Townsend of Ladner, BC. She spent the first 5 years of her life living on a float house in Brown’s Bay on Vancouver Island where her dad was a mechanic for a logging company. The float home was later brought down to Ladner and placed on the Townsend farm at the corner of River Rd West and 40th St; next to her grandparents and uncle Allan and family.
She would often ride her bike accompanied by her dog Spot to her maternal grandparents, the Wilsons who farmed on Mason Rd.
The family briefly lived in Prince George when her dad drove for a freight company.
Mom boarded in Vancouver while going to secretarial school and started working at Marshall Wells and later the Royal Bank.
She met Bill, the love of her life, while carpooling back to Ladner on weekends. They were married in Ladner on July 27, 1951 and together they moved around the province with dad’ s work at Eatons. Sandra and Brad were born in Chilliwack, Sherrie in Victoria and Randy in North Vancouver. Mom and dad were involved with the square dance club, active in their church and travelled to many far off places.
When dad retired from ICBC they moved to Ladner on Central Ave near to where dad’s parents had lived. Mom returned to the North Shore to be closer to family and friends after dad passed away in 1993. She volunteered at Lion’s Gate hospital and Harvest House. Friends were very important to Mom and she was blessed to have had many wonderful ones in her life. Mom was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was gracious and generous; she had an inner strength that saw her through any tough times.
Our family would like to thank the care staff at Evergreen House who made Mom feel comfortable and secure for the past 2 years and to Dr Sugar who treated Mom with compassion and respected her final wishes. A Memorial service will be held on Saturday Feb 3, 2018 at 1 pm at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 1110 Gladwin Dr, North Vancouver. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in mom’s memory to the charity of your choice. Online condolences may be offered at www.mem.com.
