It is with a deep sense of sadness and loss that our family shares the passing of Margaret (Margie) Anne Elfström (nee Clements) at the age of 75 of natural causes in her sleep at home in Vancouver BC on February 25, 2024.
Margie was the proud parent of son Mike Elfström and daughter Sarah Leah Anne Elfström whom she had with former husband Kerry Elfström. She will be sadly missed by Kerry, their son and his family (Kristina Ciunkaite, Fausta Kasauska and grandson Leo Elfström).
She will also be missed by her brother John Clements (Minnie Clements).
She was predeceased by her sister Judy Clements, father Carson Clements, mother Florence Clements, nephew Paul Clements, former brother-in-law, Gary Elfström, and most recently, daughter Sarah (Feb 2, 2024). Margie was born August 12, 1948 in Vancouver BC to Carson and Florence Clements. She had two siblings, twins John and Judy. She enjoyed a happy life growing up in Kerrisdale with her best friends Linda Divine and Linda Garrison. After graduating from Point Grey Secondary School, she completed a BA in recreation (BA Rec) at UBC where she met Kerry Elfström, Greg Tolliday and several other longtime friends. She married Kerry Elfström and had two children, Michael and Sarah, and soon after met Jule Hopkins who became a very dear friend. She and Kerry divorced in 1989 but Margie kept her last name as Elfström and remained living, working and playing in Richmond, BC.
She was employed by the City of Richmond Parks and Recreation Services beginning in 1974 where she spent her entire career. She managed most of the Community Centres in the city. One of her greatest accomplishments was completing an MBA from City University in Washington State in 1992 while working full time. Margie was friendly, energetic and caring towards others, respected by her peers for the attention and support she gave them, both personally and professionally. She loved animals, playing bridge, reading fantasy novels and meeting other women her age. Margie retired in 2006 due to health issues related to Multiple Sclerosis.
A combined private celebration of life for Margaret and Sarah’s family and friends will be on Saturday March 23, 2024.
Instead of flowers please consider a donation in Margaret’s name to the BC SPCA.
