Maria and I shared a cabin on the Queen of Prince Rupert in 1971. Maria taught me how to share a small space respectfully. Thankfully these early teachings remain giving one a sense of the life and quality lived by Maria. A true steadfast crew member in the Queen of the North and Queen of Prince Rupert, Maria etched her personality and committments into our memories. 
How fortunate we are to have known Maria and enjoyed her charachter.

Maria was our neighbour on 12th Avenue when we lived in Vancouver. She was an amazing person - very kind, generous and always willing to lend a hand to anyone who needed it. She will be missed by so many. It was a pleasure knowing you Maria . . . rest in peace.

Alison and I were very sad to learn that Maria had passed away. She was a wonderful, spirited contributor to so many things in the community. Her spirit and heart were large and generous in every way. As a Citizenship judge it was an honour for me to share so many ceremonies with Maria, and listen to her welcome " her fellow new Canadians", with such warmth and with her special message. Alison and I also felt very fortunate to have been able to visit Maria several years ago in Lucerne in her favourite hotel near the Lake and be her guests at a delcious lunch Swiss style. Style is the perfect word for Maria; she had it in spades and will be greatly missed.

I never forget when Maria was present at my citizenship ceremony. She always asked if there was a Swiss there. 
Also she always enjoyed when ever I played the alphorn.
She supported all cultural events especially the Swiss ones.
Maria will be greatly missed.

Maria's passing is truly the end of an era. She was such a presence on the Queen of Prince Rupert and the Queen of the North for so many years.  At our last of the old ship's crews she got up to the microphone and stressed the importance of volunteering in her life and suggested that we should all be doing a little more. She will become the stuff of legends...

Maria , I will always remember you as one of my best friends.  You were courageous, funny and always kind to Wray and I.  I know that you knew how much all your B.C. ferries friends loved you.  Rest in  peace my dear friend.

Maria your presence in my life was pure inspiration and always will be. Though you are gone from your body, you will forever be in my heart. We will dearly miss our games of Skip-Bo over G&Ts. Thank you for all the incredible memories that we shared. Ich liebe dich Grossmuter!

Maria you will be forever in our hearts.  We have so many good memories of late night Skip-Bo, the Symphony, the Aquarium, Van Dusen Gardens, the Tea House, Swiss Choir and on an on and on.  You have taught us both more than words will never explain.  Ich liebe dich!

It is with a great deal of sadness that I heard of Maria's passing.  I have know Maria for more than 30 years since she was a volunteer at the Citizenship Court in the late seventies.  She was almost a permanent fixture at many citizenship ceremonies, welcoming new citizens and making them feel at home and at ease. She spoke to the new Canadians and sometimes led the singing of O Canada which she loved to.
We will miss her presence at the ceremonies but her smiles will alwys be in our hearts and minds.
